But pretending Germany is an economic failure is absurd.

Germany is still the world’s 3rd-largest economy, Europe’s largest economy and the backbone of the European industrial system.

It remains one of the world’s largest exporters and still runs one of the largest current-account surpluses on earth around 4.5% of GDP in 2025, second only to China in absolute terms.

Germany has the fiscal space to recover. Public debt was only 63.5% of GDP in 2025, far below the eurozone average of 87.8%.

US Pilot Awarded Germany’s Gold Cross for Saving German Soldiers 🇺🇸🇩🇪

During the Good Friday Battle in Afghanistan, a U.S. Army MEDEVAC crew flew directly into a heavily contested combat zone to rescue wounded German paratroopers under intense enemy fire.

Despite receiving orders to abort, Chief Warrant Officer Jason LaCrosse and his Black Hawk crew pushed forward, landed under fire, and returned multiple times to evacuate the wounded.

For their extraordinary bravery, the entire crew was awarded Germany’s Gold Cross of Honor one of the nation’s highest military awards.
