Detroit Regional Chamber Chief Executive Officer @Baruah_DRC_CEO traveled to Japan for eight days in early September as a guest of the Japanese government, arranged by the Consul General of Japan in Detroit, Hajime “Jimmy” Kishimori.

The purpose of the trip was to reinforce Michigan’s commitment to its long-standing economic partnership and friendship with Japan and to strengthen relationships with Japanese companies (particularly automotive-related) with large investments and employment in Michigan.

MichAuto investor Nexteer Automotive hosted its annual Scholarship Golf Outing fundraiser, reinforcing the company's commitment to developing the next generation of talent. The initiative has generated more than $500,000 in support and enabled the distribution of over $250,000 in scholarships to date, including $35,000 awarded this year to high school, college, and skilled trades students, as well as Nexteer interns.

MichAuto investor @michigantech has been awarded funding through the @NSF's inaugural CyberAICorps Scholarship for Service program for its project, "CyberAI SFS: Building the Future Cybersecurity and AI Workforce." MichAuto's Michigan Automotive Roadmap campaign is helping unite stakeholders around a shared strategy, building momentum toward the launch of the Automobility Policy Roadmap in December 2026.

MichAuto Executive Director @glennrstevens and @DetroitChamber President and Chief Executive Officer @Baruah_DRC_CEO joined a contingent of business and government leaders in welcoming Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Shigeo Yamada to Detroit on Sept. 8.

At the event, hosted by the Consul General of Japan in Detroit Hajime “Jimmy” Kishimori, attendees, including Chamber Board member and former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, discussed the economic and business connections between the U.S. and Japan and ways to build stronger ties between Michigan and Japanese companies and industries. More than 500 Japanese-based companies operate in Michigan and employ more than 40,000 workers, mostly in the automotive and mobility industry.
