Kim Soo-hyun begins his comeback

Actor Kim Soo-hyun has begun preparing for a comeback about a year after completely suspending his activities due to a private-life controversy.

It has been reported that Kim Soo-hyun is scheduled to film an advertisement in July for Bench, one of the Philippines’ leading fashion brands. This will be his first official schedule since his activities were halted following the controversy, which led to contract terminations and delays in the release of projects.

Recently, Kim Se-ui, the operator of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute, which had raised allegations against Kim Soo-hyun, was referred to prosecutors under detention on charges including defamation and violations of the anti-stalking law. As a result, questions have emerged regarding the credibility of some of the allegations. It was also reported that investigators found indications of AI-generated voice manipulation and fabricated KakaoTalk conversations during the investigation.

On June 5, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, stated:

“The police investigation found grounds for charges including violations of the Information and Communications Network Act, the Anti-Stalking Act, the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, attempted coercion, and threats. We deeply thank those who spoke out on behalf of Kim Soo-hyun while he patiently awaited the legal process. Above all, we sincerely thank the fans who have supported and stood by him throughout this long period.”

Following the investigation results, discussions about Kim Soo-hyun’s return are reportedly gaining momentum within the entertainment industry. In particular, the fate of the approximately 60-billion-won (about $600 million) production Knock-Off has emerged as a key issue. The series’ release has already been postponed, and the eventual decision is expected to affect both the platform and the actor.

Kim Soo-hyun has built significant influence both domestically and internationally through the success of dramas such as Dream High, Moon Embracing the Sun, My Love from the Star, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and Queen of Tears, as well as films including The Thieves and Secretly, Greatly. However, his acting career was recently put on hold after the controversy damaged his public image.
