One of the main projects I spend my time on is my Historical Passenger Rail Map of Michigan. Recently, I've been documenting stations, mostly in southern and southeast Michigan. I've been sourcing the location of the station through old insurance maps and atlases.
@Cedar500 Might have something to do with the Hasan and Abdul event at MSU that was recently announced. Ik there's been some discourse around it recently.
@Cedar500 Make sure to check out Wealthy Street over by Good Truckin Diner. It's an amazing historic downtown that blends right into the surrounding neighborhoods. Beautiful area with some great small businesses.
Concrete is being poured for the new section of the Joe Louis Greenway between W. Jefferson and the Gordie Howe International Bridge US Port of Entry (near Fort Wayne). Landscaping is coming!
@MitchATreadwell@RAILMag@A2TCbyRail Leadership. MDOT could offer to buy the railroad from CSX, similar to the Snyder admin buying the Wolverine line, and upgrade it for passenger rail. We have the money for it, but not the political will to spend it on transit. We need leaders who WANT this to happen unlike Whitmer
@RAILMag@A2TCbyRail And since transit isn't funded by Michigan's state government, I don't see the corridor that needs more upgrades to be more achievable. Coast-to-Coast wouldn't need as many upgrades (already has CTC and higher speed tracks) The state just needs to buy the Plymouth sub from CSX.
@RAILMag@A2TCbyRail I don't think A2TC is more achievable than the Coast-to-Coast corridor. A2TC has a 10mph speed limit for most of the line, in addition to no signaling. Furthermore, Michigan's state gov is hostile to transit. They just proposed the lowest LBO in 20 years with a dem governor.
@BenMuciek @PA_Voter_341 @ThunderWolf08 If the Blue Water continued on CN trackage from Battle Creek, it would eventually get to South Bend. Not a horrible idea as it would add a huge rider base to a semi frequent Amtrak line. Although, I wonder how much slower/faster that route through Southbend would take.
@PA_Voter_341 @ThunderWolf08 Amtrak only owns the line from Kalamazoo to Porter Indiana, not all the way to Chicago. I agree, your idea would be nice, but it'll be a little harder to achieve than you're implying.
#TBT Photograph, circa 1921-1922, of three students on roller skates posing for a photo next to a streetcar. Written on the back reads: "Wolverine 1922 p. 133 'When the Seniors became kids again. Several of these stunts are staged by the seniors each spring.'" #MSUHistory
The status quo simply isn't working for most Americans. We need to acknowledge that.
But the answer isn't burning it all down. The answer is building government back up in a way that works for all of us.
