They still had to contend with what came after such as jim crow, segregation, redlining, police & fbi & mob targeting, state/federal discrimination, etc

It’s not so much that black Americans are adamant about it, it’s more so that it’s reinforced by the society in which they live in.

Their culture arose from that treatment. Skin color is part of that culture as well as food, attire, speech patterns, religion, etc.

It was created because they were completely segregated from the majority. You’ll be hard pressed to find any other group in the world that’s similar, unless they’re imitating.
