“Mr. Geraghty is a business creator and builder. In 1972, he co-founded the Waterbed
Manufacturers Association, a non-profit representing the companies which collectively built a $2.5
billion ($7 billion today) by the mid 1980s. At age 23 he was elected the WMA’s inaugural Vice
President, and later was elected WMA President 4 times. In 1978 he co-founded Monterey
Manufacturing Inc., which at its peak was manufacturing 60,000 waterbed mattresses per month,
with distribution in North America, Europe and Austral-Asia. In 1982 he sold the company to the
world’s largest mattress maker, known today as Tempur-Sealy. He continued to manage their
subsidiary through his 6 year non-compete agreement. In 1989 he co-founded another mattress
manufacturing company which he later sold to a Canadian manufacturer. His experiences in that
era are chronicled in a 2024 released book titled “Hippie Entrepreneurs” by Andre Koscis. In the
early 2000s Mr. Geraghty founded an import company which remodeled over 10,000 southern
California kitchens and bathrooms. When he retired in 2023, he decided the best way he could
help our city and state would be as a volunteer for the Republican Party.
Raised in a Democrat family, his first political experience was campaigning door-to-door for JFK as
a 12 year old. His awakening resulted from reading J. William Fulbright’s The Arrogance of Power as
a teenager. Although he remained an Independent for many years, he was a member of the
Republican Party’s Senatorial Inner Circle in the 1990s and was an invited guest at Joe Lieberman’s
private party celebrating his nomination for VP on the 2000 Democrat ticket. That all changed when
he became an ardent supporter of President Trump in his first term.”
