@NoJusticeMTG He's mates with Johnny Marr, and seems to have a decent knowledge of that 80s/90s indie scene because he was around it all at the time. I think he's just a genuine fan who likes talking about it.
@IanMcQuaid It's not his best parody, but it's clearly a POV of what UK Garage sounds like to white, middle class Americans and I think he does a pretty good job of nailing that.
@ARN0LD_WEBER@JamesConran1 My parents were able to buy their first house in 1977 at the age of 22 on just my dad's wage as a retail worker. Now that seems like fanciful pipe dream. The TCPA didn't cause the cost of housing to skyrocket, 40 years of neoliberalism/Thatcherism did that.
"Our Lips Are Sealed" Co-written by Jane Wiedlin & Terry Hall, inspired by a secret romance between the two while the Go-Go's and The Specials were on tour. The song features two versions, the Go-Go's & by Hall's band, Fun Boy Three.
The Beastie Boys' "White Shadow" is a hardcore track performed during their first television appearance on the Scott & Gary Show, early 80's. Rare footage captures the original four-member lineup.
Bonus points if you can name the drummer and their band that came after.
@miguel197820@PoliticoForYou Yet the head shaking and the muttering stops when it comes to the triple lock. It's almost as if the generation who voted for Thatcher in the majority 3 times who cut pensions in 1980 plunging pensioners back then into poverty hate it when anyone but themselves get any help.
@anon_opin It was their very well chosen band name, and their distinctive album covers and T Shirts that did more to build their reputation than their music ever did. They were in fact more of a clothing label than a band.
