@camsell59 One thing we can be certain of, Harry: all those undistributed pennies added together will pay for a damn fine lunch in Soho for someone, but probably not the hapless scribbler…
The Dickensian world of publishing. Until the royalties on this book reach £30 I will not be paid them. Since the book came out in 1992 and my last share of royalties was 59p, it is unlikely this will ever happen. Where will it go in the end?

Really, really excited to receive a test copy of the #ACESupported COAL FACE book of @martintype's film photography & my verbatim poetry! It's incredible to see our participants' stories in print & know that @RedhillsDurham will be publishing it after a few design tweaks...
Very emotional after finishing what I'm calling the 'Soul Edit' of my flapping novel yesterday. 71,000 words of dialect edited in 100s of longhand pages, but I can't measure the ways in which I feel I'm stepping forward in my craft thanks to @bookishelise's wonderful guidance...
@lenjones0909@NUFC Thanks Lenny - what a nice thing to read first thing in the morning! And after a welcome if not completely convincing result last night. Have a good day…
I promised you two long reads from The QT archives this weekend (I trust you have already enjoyed the tale from @InsideOutCJ that he discovered when he was in New Zealand).
Now I bring you words from that gifted storyteller Michael Chaplin who makes an epic journey through time and space to celebrate perhaps the greatest gift made to the world by the North East— the railways.
This was first published in edition 6 of our weekly news magazine. Please share, comment, like etc if you would like us to be able to bring you more of these quality stories.

@distracteddan@BBCRadio4Extra I know! My first radio play was broadcast two years before. Hair In The Gate was based on a stage play produced by Live Theatre…
@DeadChronicler @ncllibspeccoll@libraryncl@MichaelChaplin2 It's brilliant to see you enjoying the archive - I loved seeing Chaplin's thought processes evolve in relation to certain novels. Great to see your SC collection too. Mine's almost identical!
@DeadChronicler @ncllibspeccoll@libraryncl Excellent Adam - in fact I was planning for us to meet at the Robinson, but you beat me to it! Did you get to see various documents from the archive?
@JackArthurs@BloodaxeBooks Wow. That is a priceless item, memento of the excellent production by @maxluke4 of the play of the book starring among others the young Robson Green and the start of my writing life under the tutelage of the late great #Alan Plater. A Proustian item indeed!
