To be honest, I had no clue what product I was going to get when I bought these Rush tix last fall. I did NOT expect this solid of a show—they are tight as hell. Some take potshots at Geddy’s vocals, but they’re pretty damn good & he hasn’t had to drop a key on almost anything.

A nice treat—we got Red Barchetta tonight on night one at MSG. Excuse the unsteady camera — one of my favorites and I was bopping a bit (I’ve got a gas guzzling 1993 Nissan 300ZX that is getting closer and closer to the uncle’s 50 year old sports car in the song!).

Closing of first half of Rush’s first show at MSG was Spirit of Radio. Crowd going nuts. This was an hour and twenty minutes in. Somme call that a show — they called it halftime!

@sullyengels It looks like the sun was shining from the third base line towards second base (you can see the light around second base), so bouncing the ball kept it out of the sun and gave the second baseman turning the DP a better chance to see the ball. Very smart (and cool).

@ZeusRebirth To be fair to the 9 year old, if it’s the scene I am remembering, he was a black kid creeping closer & closer to white SA cops listening to the rugby match. It’s a great scene and requires some interplay with the adults as he tried to figure out “how can I listen to this match?”

@PhillyStpeteFl I saw them play a charity event 20 yrs ago where they sorta did a “Behind the Music” for each song. They created the dueling guitars bit starting DOA while doing laundry at Richie’s parents’ house. Afterwards, I told my wife “that song alone was worth the price of admission.”

@GBbeliever4life I saw them in an 800 person audience at the Manhattan Ballroom 20 years ago (charity benefit for Stand Up for Cancer & Sloan Kettering — Richie’s dad was at SK). After they played it live that night, I turned to my wife & said “that song along was worth the price of admission.”

@PhillyStpeteFl He didn’t throw a perfect game. The band can be tighter. He needs to drop “Keep the Faith” (when he dropped an octave the instrumentals made vocals disappear). Of the ones posted, “Dead or Alive” was the most mediocre (also at end of 2 1/2 hour set), but it’s one of my favorites.

After 4 long years, Jon Bon Jovi took the stage tonight at MSG and largely killed it. After seeing his documentary and where he was after his vocal cord reconstructive surgery, it was an awesome surprise to hear how good he sounded (and the Garden was rocking along with him).

@Aerodude73 I just checked it against the studio recording — tempo seems just about identical. I find groups will sometimes SPEED UP their songs live. Exhibit 1 — Foreigner’s live version of “Hot Blooded” on their greatest hits album. Love the group, love the song, hated that live version!

@MelissaByJovi Precisely my answer — I was there and it was a blast. I saw them in an exclusive 800 attendee charity event about 20 years ago & they told stories about each song they did. Was this that? No. But it still was a great night out b/c of the music, the crowd, and Jon’s evident joy.

@CoryKarma The key point: was I glad I went? Absolutely. Was it the 800 person charity event I saw them do about 20 years ago? Nope. But the crowd energy, the music, and Jon’s clear joy all were awesome to experience live. Doing Rush at MSG in 3 weeks and hope for a similar experience.

@CoryKarma I was there. Totally agree on Keep the Faith — they should 86 it. Dropping an octave with those instrumentals doesn’t work. And there certainly is some room for production improvement. But there were a number of songs I thought he did quite well (It’s My Life, WLLGO, WSYCGH?).
