Chairman: Montgomery Waterway Restoration Trust; President: Inland Waterways Association Shrewsbury, District & North Wales branch. Views my own-we have to say!
#Shrewsbury was once described as “The finest Tudor Town in England”
The Big Town Plan Riverfront with Travelogue Hotel type buildings this is an attempt at unimaginative design looking like many other towns with a river. What do you think?
We look at the practicalities of cruising during inclement weather and pose the question ‘is it possible to love boating in the rain?’ in our February issue: https://t.co/2dn1i5FJRw 🌧
Great news for Mid-Wales. The #MontgomeryCanal offers recreation and well-being, a boost to the visitor economy and conservation of a unique natural and built heritage along a 25 mile corridor. What could be better? https://t.co/Duz0uXaBWF
The Mid Wales Growth Deal reached a significant milestone today with the signing of the Heads of Terms by the Welsh Government, UK Government and the region’s local authorities #GrowingMidWales@PowysCC@CeredigionCC @UKGovWales @WelshGovernment

When we met highway officials they thought it was a great idea to reinstate the canal crossings at Arddleen and Maerdy so towpath users could avoid crossing the busy main road. #MontgomeryCanal
#MontgomeryCanal restoration benefits boating visitors to the pub and tearoom at Maesbury, walkers on the borderland canal route from #Llangollen to #Newtown, amazing canalside reserves for flora and fauna ... I cannot get it all in 280 characters so try https://t.co/GIJrH2RhJt
We believe waterway restoration projects can start to deliver benefits from day one.
Find out about the projects that received support from our Waterways in Progress grant last year.

The #MontgomeryCanal was abandoned in 1944 too but fortunately there was little destruction of locks (only towards #Newtown). Lots of damage to bridges though, right up to 1980, but we have been putting that right: next is to rebuild Schoolhouse Bridge - https://t.co/cmqEoR3o5w
#ThrowbackThursday and a fascinating photo from 1952 showing the top lock of the Norbury flight of locks on the Newport branch of the Shrewsbury Canal being converted into a dry dock. The canal was officially abandoned in 1944 but there are plans for restoration. @sn_canal
I wonder if that would happen if there was a new canal #MontgomeryCanal terminus in #Newtown? That's the ambition: help us to bring boats back to Mid-Wales - https://t.co/cmqEoR3o5w .
A fantastic photograph of people standing on the frozen canal in Newtown!
We need your help to enrich the late David Pugh's photographic collection of #Newtown through the decades with titles, descriptions, locations and dates⬇️

Thanks @RealWilde. We're delighted with the positive responses to our ambition to bring boats back to mid-Wales. Great plans for the future. More about the #MontgomeryCanal on https://t.co/cmqEoR3o5w.
Fascinating listening to presentation about Montgomery Canal restoration & all of the amazing things that already happen on the Canal & plans for the future #GrowMidWales
Our vision for sustainable boating outlines how developments in more environmentally friendly propulsion can help the inland waterways meet the UK’s zero carbon commitments.

There's more information to be added but you can see how the #MontgomeryCanal connects to the national waterway system: at the moment boats only to Gronwen, but soon on to Crickheath. And we are working to connect into mid-Wales too. https://t.co/49Lsxfm1bD
Have you seen our UK canal map yet? It shows the navigable rivers and canals in England, Wales and Scotland.
You can also see the canals and rivers that being restored or are derelict. Plus we're adding to it waterway activities and events.

We took a keen interest in the Monty when we lived in Pant. Really pleased to see that restoration of the dry section of the canal continues with enthusiastic volunteers leading the way. Plenty of support from @ShropCouncil too!

We know that for some, the canals are the only outdoor space they can get daily exercise. Please remember that although many people are staying at home, there may be others on the towpath so take it easy so you can stop safely if needed: https://t.co/JF9Q6ulqDM #StayKindSlowDown
