And I will give you one of many examples.

In the I890s Southern Rhodesia (today’s Zimbabwe). The natives of Ndebele and Shona ethnic groups rose against the British for desecrating their indigenous spirituality, among other crimes the British committed against them (including forcefully grabbing their land for white settlements). That was the very first organized resistance by the natives. An estimated 30,000 Zimbabweans were massacred for daring to protect their land and indigenous beliefs. That resistance is known as the ‘First Chimurenga.’
