The BBC Doesn’t Want Viewers — It Wants Hostages
So let me get this straight.
I pay Netflix for Netflix.
I pay YouTube for YouTube.
I do not watch the BBC.
And yet the BBC still thinks it has a divine right to rummage around in my wallet?
This isn’t public service broadcasting anymore.
It’s institutional arrogance wrapped in nostalgia.
The licence fee was built for an age of three channels, static screens and enforced national attention.
That world is dead. Buried. Gone.
Instead of competing like everyone else, the BBC’s response to losing relevance is essentially:
👉 “If people won’t choose us, we’ll force them.”
Charging people because they watch Netflix or YouTube isn’t modernisation —
it’s a state-backed shakedown.
And what really grates?
The moral superiority.
This organisation still talks down to the public like it’s the nation’s conscience, while repeatedly failing to get its own house in order.
Maybe before demanding more compulsory cash, it should stop posturing as the moral compass of Britain and start asking some very hard questions about itself.
How many scandals does it take?
How many internal failures quietly managed, minimised, or brushed aside?
How many times does the public have to be told “lessons have been learned” before trust is completely gone?
You don’t get to lecture the country, alienate huge swathes of the audience, pump out bias, repeats and self-regard…
…and then demand payment from people who’ve actively walked away.
That’s not public service.
That’s monopoly thinking on life support.
Imagine Tesco billing you because you shopped at Aldi.
Imagine Spotify invoicing you because you bought a CD.
You’d call it insane — because it is.
If the BBC’s content is good, people will pay voluntarily.
If they won’t, you don’t get to threaten, guilt-trip, or criminalise them for refusing.
The future is choice.
The BBC hates choice — because choice exposes irrelevance.
No more reverence.
No more compulsory funding.
No more pretending this is about anything other than control.
“Let’s spend £4.5trillion on net zero over the next 25 years. Let’s ban new oil and gas licences in the North Sea but spaff away £40billion buying North Sea oil and gas from Norway. Let’s buy coking coal shipments from Japan but ban UK coal mining. Let’s plaster thousands of acres of farmland with solar panels but spend £50million on sun dimming experiments. Let’s give Drax an estimated £1.8billlion in taxpayer funded subsidies on top of the £11billion it has already received despite Drax burning an amount of wood equivalent to 300 million trees. Let’s give £1.5 billion of taxpayers’ money this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by falsely claiming there’s a £22bn black hole.”
A country that cannot provide swift medical care for its people is broken.
A country where thousands die prematurely awaiting hospital care is broken.
A country in the Bottom Two of survival rates for common cancers in the developed world is broken.
A country where the target for the time between cancer diagnosis and starting treatment is the highest in Europe - and we still don’t hit it - is broken.
A country where state of the art drugs and treatment are unaffordable is broken.
A country with grossly unsafe maternity care where the NHS pays out billions to babies they have either killed or damaged for life is broken.
A country where my mother’s elderly neighbour waited 17 hours lying on the floor for an ambulance - and died - is broken.
A country where six hours bleeding or vomiting in A&E is the norm is broken.
A country where Corridor Care is a thing is broken.
A country where you have to call at 8am to compete to see a doctor maybe in three weeks time and not even in person is broken.
A country where millions of people accept all of the misery and pain and discomfort and danger described above as just what we have to put up with is broken.
Britain is Broken.
