#OnThisDay in 1798, USS Constitution sailed for the first time, beginning the remarkable journey that would earn her the immortal nickname "Old Ironsides." More than two centuries later, she remains a symbol of American courage, perseverance, and freedom. Her extraordinary legacy inspired my award-winning novel, Ironsides' Peril. Fair winds, Old Ironsides! ⚓🇺🇸

July 16–19, 1812: The Great Escape
For three tense days in July 1812, USS Constitution refused to be trapped. Surrounded by a superior British squadron, Captain Isaac Hull and his crew used every trick they knew—kedging, towing, and even wetting the sails—to coax every ounce of speed from the ship. Their determination saved Constitution from capture.
That daring escape changed history. Just weeks later, Constitution defeated HMS Guerriere, earned the nickname "Old Ironsides," and became an enduring symbol of American resolve.
More than two centuries later, that same fighting spirit lives on in Ironsides' Peril. In my novel, America's most famous warship once again faces an enemy determined to destroy her. The threats are modern, but the courage, ingenuity, and determination that carried Captain Hull's crew through the Great Escape remain timeless.
History's greatest ship still has a story to tell.

Today, Boston Harbor celebrates America's rich maritime heritage as the magnificent Tall Ships take to the water in the Parade of Sail, led by the legendary USS Constitution—Old Ironsides herself. Watching her lead the fleet is a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and seamanship that shaped our nation. That enduring legacy inspired my award-winning novel, Ironsides' Peril. Fair winds to all! ⚓🇺🇸
