Had lots of positive feedback from delivering mental health training to police this week. Through this training we have been able to start opening doors to improve collaborative working, in the hope of achieving better outcomes for our patients & the wider community.
My colleague & I are creating a training package to increase police knowledge of mental health. Officers we have spoken with have requested training on diagnosis of PD. I wanted to see if anyone has delivered this kind of training to police, what worked/didn't work? Etc. TIA
There are many reasons for homelessness, but 'lifestyle choice' is definitely not one. Mental illness, tauma, lack of skills and support, not enough houses or spaces in hostels, being discharged from hospital & released from prison homeless etc. They need support not condemned.
What I want to stop, and what the law abiding majority wants us to stop, is those who cause nuisance and distress to other people by pitching tents in public spaces, aggressively begging, stealing, taking drugs, littering, and blighting our communities. 4/4
What is interoception in the context of #addiction?
'Interoception is an important aspect of emotion regulation which seems to be disrupted in #alcohol/#drug use disorders, in behavioural addictions, as well as in harmful patterns of social drinking.'

We have a new policy to help people get the right support for their mental health at home instead of in hospital. Care, education and treatment reviews must be better and happen at the right times.

Another great #occupationaltherapy and #substanceuse network meeting. Rich peer support, sharing of successes, and evidence based practice.
Wondering, are there any occupational therapist academics/faculty out there with a strong special interest in #addiction or substance use?
The cost of living is considered by nearly three quarters (72%) of the population as a very serious problem, followed by the affordability of housing and poverty, then homelessness. @ipsosuk report here:

Had the pleasure of attending the Health & Homelessness Network today. It was inspiring hearing EbE stories & how teams can work more collaboratively with each other & our service users to create better outcomes.@CollabNewcastle@tynehousing@NorthumbriaUni
In collaboration with @tynehousing, NHS providers, charities and community groups, people from across the region who have experienced periods of homelessness, will be recruited as experts by experience to guide the project. #TakeOnTomorrow

Following #BBCPanorama, we’ve put together a few links where autistic people and people with learning disabilities can try to get help if they are stuck in ATU. We know this kind of abuse is endemic in the system.
