Tucker's keepers have consistently used his official name, "Tucker" when interacting with him, so there is no confusion that we're still calling him Tucker! Bruce was more of a public name when he was in San Francisco. https://t.co/ekemqYZHyn 📷: Marianne Hale
Rico munches on a melon! Rico is 10/10 cute, but Brazilian porcupines secrete a pungent, oily substance that keepers humorously describe as “a mix between onions and body odor.” We love him either way! 💚
Smile, it's Friday! Bamboo constitutes about 95% of the red panda's diet. They can spend up to 13 hours a day foraging for bamboo, eating only the youngest, most tender leaves. A small, thumb-like bone that sticks out from the wrist that helps them grasp the bamboo.
Kris & Remus still have overnights together! She has started to show less interest in playing with Remus as she did when she was younger but they still play on occasion, so for now they will stay companions! Remus plays with Moose & their keepers when he's not with Kris #Caturday
Say hello to Aughra & Ishtar, the Lappet-faced vultures, native to Africa. They're important to ecosystems of the world because of their role in cleaning up deceased animals & stopping spread of disease #InternationalVultureAwarenessDay
Renji the snow leopard 😍 Snow leopards have very long, thick tails that they use for balancing on rocks & protection from the cold. They can jump as much as 50 feet in length!
I convinced my parents at 16 to drop out of high school & leave my hometown. Today, that same home town honored me with “Carly Pearce Day” and 2 of these signs at both ends of the town. I truly have no words. This town made me who I am…. I will always 🤍 you, Taylor Mill.
Sound on! Rico the porcupine loves crunchy foods and for some reason we all love to hear him crunch! This great video is brought to you by Great American Insurance Group.
Happy 9th birthday Lightning! Sloths have the lowest metabolic rate of any mammal, which means that it takes them a long time to digest anything. Lightning is still pregnant with her first baby, and in the final weeks of her long 10-month gestation period.
Happy 11th Birthday John! Helping humans learn how to live with lions is key to ensuring their survival. Learn more about how the Zoo is supporting lion conservation in Kenya: https://t.co/ygeDmNR6tH
Fiona grabs on to mom for a ride around the pool! Hippos spend up to 16 hours a day submerged in rivers and lakes to keep cool under the hot sun. #TeamFiona
It's #WorldAfricanPaintedDogDay! Mom Akili has her paws full with 2yr old pups Tico, Stephen, Imani, Duke, Koda, Lala & Raina! They love chewing on sticks and tearing apart boxes & pretty much act like siblings act-chasing and wrestling is very common to see!
Happy 6th Bday Elle! One facet to the zoo’s gorilla program is our conservation work in the rainforests of the Congo. We've supported efforts in the wild to help this critically endangered species for 20+yrs. Official Sponsor of Gorilla Conservation is The Gorilla Glue Company
