Pakistani military rulers killed millions of civilians in Bangladesh and denied it, claiming the number to be an exaggeration and an Indian conspiracy. In 1971, a section of anti-Indian (pro-Pakistani) religious extremist groups like Jamaat-e-Islami supported Pakistani views as opposed to the facts. In independent Bangladesh, do those who support Jamaat-e-Islami and similar idiologies still believe that their forefathers were right—that the struggle for freedom was an Indian conspiracy?

I was delighted to meet HE the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Media Corporation, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al-Thani, on the sidelines of the Conference of Information Ministers of the Member States of the OIC. We had a fruitful discussion about how to create a collaboration between Qatar and Bangladesh in light of their experience of creating a global media outlet like Al Jazeera.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence have formed a probe body over the deadly fire that broke out at a multistorey commercial building that housed several restaurants in Dhaka’s Bailey Road.
Lt Col Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury, director of operations and maintenance wing of the fire service, has been appointed as the head of the committee.

I had a wonderful meeting with the Turkish Head of the Communications Department (information minister), Mr. Fahrettin Altun, in Istanbul on the sidelines. I have conveyed the best wishes of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the President and the First Lady of Turkey and invited the information minister to visit Bangladesh. I have expressed my interest in collaboration with Turkey in terms of exchanges of experiences with regard to media and combating misinformation.
