NDC Approves Key Appointments in New Media and Strategic Communications

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved the appointments of Agada Abuh Theophilus as Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, and Brian Dennis as Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications

Agada Abuh Theophilus (@TheoAbuAgada) is a strategic communications professional with a proven record across political campaigns, corporate brand management, institutional PR, and new media. Agada is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Communications, specialising in strategic communication for social and institutional development, and is currently a PhD candidate researching election administration and management.

Brian Dennis (@XBrianDennis) is a communications analyst with seven years of experience in strategic and political communications. He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

WARRI DELINEATION: HISTORIAN OFFERS PEACE ROADMAP, URGES DELTA GOV TO SEEK COURT INTERPRETATION

A Delta State historian, Dr. Ejiro Imuere, has proposed what he described as a pathway to lasting peace in the ongoing Warri delineation dispute, urging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to seek a judicial interpretation of a key clause in the 1908 Warri Township lease document.

In a statement titled "If I Were the Delta State Governor," Imuere argued that the ownership controversy involving the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities has persisted despite decades of legal battles, government interventions, and administrative decisions.

According to him, previous efforts by governments and political authorities have failed to permanently resolve the dispute, leaving underlying grievances unaddressed.

Imuere said one of the unresolved issues is the interpretation of a clause in the 1908 lease document which stated that certain lands were leased on behalf of "the Chiefs and people of Warri."

He noted that while the lease document has played a significant role in discussions surrounding land ownership in Warri, the phrase has never been subjected to judicial interpretation.

"That clause 'The Chiefs and people of Warri' as at 1908 in the Warri Township lease, on whose behalf the lands were leased, had never been interpreted by any court," he stated.

The historian maintained that a definitive court interpretation of the phrase could help address longstanding questions surrounding the ownership of Warri GRA and adjoining areas and reduce tensions among the affected ethnic groups.

As part of what he described as a peace roadmap, Imuere advised Governor Oborevwori to initiate legal proceedings seeking clarification from the courts and ensure that representatives of the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities are joined in the suit to present their respective positions.

"If I were the Governor, to end all this wahala again, I will seek a judicial interpretation of that clause and join the three tribes to the suit to come and defend their interests," he said.

According to him, the central question requiring judicial determination is: "Who were the chiefs and people of Warri GRA and Alders Town before or as at 1908 when the leases were made?"

Imuere expressed the view that a court-backed interpretation of the historical records would provide greater legal clarity, strengthen confidence in the process, and contribute to a peaceful and lasting resolution of disputes linked to land ownership and identity in the Warri area.

He urged all stakeholders to embrace lawful and peaceful means of resolving disagreements while allowing constitutional institutions to determine contested historical and legal questions.
