Yep. This actually happened.

In 1914, May Pierstorff’s parents in Idaho wanted to send her to visit her grandparents, but the train fare cost more than sending a package.

Parcel Post rules had no clear prohibition against mailing a person, and May weighed just under the 50-pound limit. So postal workers attached 53 cents in stamps to her coat, put her aboard the railway mail train and safely delivered her to her grandmother in Lewiston.

She wasn’t stuffed in a box or mailbag. She rode with the postal workers.

Imagine Grandma opening the door and hearing, “Special delivery. We brought your granddaughter.”
