BREAKING: Five respected former U.S. Defense Secretaries incinerate Donald Trump for his "reckless" mass firings at the Pentagon — destroying the MAGA myth that this president will "keep us safe."

The wheels are really coming off now...

"We are deeply alarmed by President Trump’s recent dismissals of several senior U.S. military leaders," former Secretaries Lloyd Austin, Jim Mattis, Chuck Hagel, Leon Panetta, and William Perry wrote in a bipartisan letter to lawmakers.

They slammed the layoffs as a "partisan" purge and called for formal Congressional hearings into the firing of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General C.Q. Brown.

"We write to urge the U.S. Congress to hold Mr. Trump to account for these reckless actions and to exercise fully its Constitutional oversight responsibilities," they stated.

The unprecedented letter comes in the wake of six prominent firings including that of Admiral Lisa Franchetti, who was the first woman to ever serve as chief of naval operations as well as the first woman to serve in the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

By firing her, Trump tossed red meat to his misogynist supporters who hate seeing women in any kind of positions of power or influence, especially in a military context.

"Mr. Trump’s dismissals raise troubling questions about the administration’s desire to politicize the military and to remove legal constraints on the president’s power," the former Defense Secretaries wrote in their letter. "Talented Americans may be far less likely to choose a life of military service if they believe they will be held to a political standard."

White House’s National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes quickly hit back, claiming that the firings were "well within" President Trump's authority which, even if true, does not mean that they were wise or in the best interests of the country.

The expert consensus is clear: Donald Trump makes America less safe.
