Oggi siamo stati a Stirling. Accanto a questo ponte, nel 1297, William Wallace sconfisse gli inglesi proprio nella battaglia di Stirling Bridge. A pochi chilometri di distanza, a Bannockburn, nel 1314, Robert the Bruce sconfisse Edoardo II aprendo la strada per l’indipendenza scozzese.
Nel sito che commemora la battaglia si legge una citazione dalla dichiarazione di Arbroath, con la quale i baroni scozzesi dichiararono la loro indipendenza dall’Inghilterra: “non è infatti per la gloria, la ricchezza o gli onori che combattiamo, ma per la libertà soltanto, che nessun uomo onesto perde se non con la vita”.

Delle persone capaci di difendere la libertà rimane traccia nella Storia, dei codardi e di chi si fa soggiogare si perde la memoria.

El canal de TV Sky News lo encontró y le preguntó por qué no lo hacía:

On October 15, 1986, the football teams of IBM Zurich Laboratory and Dow Chemical were due to play a game against each other. But it was almost derailed by a sudden announcement made just a few hours before kick-off.

The sudden announcement was that two of the IBM players – Gerd Binnig (right, holding flowers) and Heinrich Rohrer (left, holding flowers) had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The two laureates were rushed off to a press conference, but they insisted the conference end on time because their football team needed them. Although IBM lost the match 2-4 they still had a reason to celebrate.
