July is Law Enforcement Child Month. This month highlights the sacrifices children of LE make, such as missed holidays, interrupted family dinners, no working from home even during Covid, and daily uncertainties while a child’s parent or parents serve the community.
While Roxanne was on patrol training, I had daddy duty everyday, weekends and holidays. I actually cherish the time I got to spend with my son during those first few years. (Roxanne had a better work schedule with our daughter 🙏🏽).
Anyway - I don’t tell my kids enough how much I love and appreciate them and the sacrifices they make living with a prosecutor and police officer.
Love your kids ❤️
Today is June 21, 2026. For those who don't know, eight years ago today sweet little Anthony Nolan Avalos passed away. Today and every day, we REMEMBER Anthony Avalos. His little life mattered.
On June 7, 2018, Pearl Fernandez was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole and Isauro Aguirre was sentenced to capital punishment. Fourteen days later I was at work when I got a call, "It happened again." I don't think I will ever forget that call, and I know I will never forget little Anthony.
Every May 4; every June 21; every time I go to Antelope Valley; every time I drive by his tree and the apartment where he was tortured and murdered; every time I go to LASD Lancaster station; every time I go to his grave site; every time I see his family; and, every time I look at my own son-I think about Anthony and what happened to him.
As a father and human being, it was unimaginable. Those injury photos, the autopsy, and the crime scene - it will never leave my mind. No one was there to protect him, love him, console him, and just be there for him. My heart still breaks with his family knowing all the abuse Anthony's little body went through.
On April 25, 2023, Heather Barron and Kareem Leiva were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. The trial and sentence did not bring Anthony back. But some justice was served that day. No matter what any CA politician does or says - LWOP should mean LWOP. And I won’t stop fighting for Anthony.
Today, my thoughts and prayers are with Destiny, Rafael, and Angel, Maria and her family, Maricruz and Concepcion and her family, Victor and his family, Crystal and her family, and his teacher, Harmony.
We love you Anthony ❤️🙏🏽
The CA Board of Parole CEO told a packed audience today at a parole hearing that: “the nature of the crime does not, in and of itself, provide evidence of current dangerousness in its truest form.”
I would strongly disagree. For example:
-Intentional Murder of a Child by Torture (PC 187 + PC 190.2(a)(18))
-Sodomy by Force or Violence of a Child Under 14 (PC 286(a)(2)(B))
-Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 14 (PC 288.5)
-Sexual Intercourse or Sodomy of a Child 10 or younger (PC 288.7)
-Multiple Murders of Children (PC 187 + PC 190.2(a)(3))
- Murder and Rape or Sodomy of a Child (PC 187 + PC 190.2(a)(17)(C) & (D))
There are plenty more. The State of CA Legislature, the Governor, the Parole Board, pretty much all of them don’t want to protect the innocent. They don’t really represent peaceful, law abiding normal everyday CA families. They want to play politics, pander, lie to get re-elected and use us as a social experiment.
Around 2019 or so, the overwhelmingly majority of CA & LA politicians supported “defunding the police,” “abolishing prisons,” and George Gascón. (And yes, we know exactly who you are - I’ll never forget).
Now … all these folks have either flip-flopped, gaslight, or straight up lie and say we don’t know what we are talking about.
The problem - you can never trust any of these elected “leaders.” They will do or say anything at any given time in history to keep their power and win elections. They will claim that they are going to fix all the bad things in our city and county - and we are like, ‘hold up, you are one of the ones who have been in charge and caused all this mess to begin with.’
Public safety isn’t political. The only ones who have been hurt by these politician is us. The ones they are supposed to be helping.
Raising more taxes, voting for the same people, mapping out your entire life path based on a political party, focusing your entire being on national instead of local issues is never going to improve our situation. Vote differently. Vote for the person.
