A headteacher who is too involved and fighting a stupid system on behalf of marginalised children. Also a sci-fi fan, avid reader and advocate for adoption.
@Headteacherchat Give them an email add they can use for contact. Explain it will only be checked periodically, abusive or threatening language will be reported to police. Any contact through other channels is deemed harrassment & will be reported to police. If govs support, it helps. 2/2
@Headteacherchat Read your 'habitual & vexatious complaints policy'. Move through the process swiftly. Ban them from the premises, inform them they will only be contacted in relation to their child (ie. An emergency) and that they will receive written reports instead of parent eve 1/2
Need English & humanities teachers who put wellbeing first & tailor learning to individuals. Be part of a strong team & have very small classes (max 3). In Reading. Could suit primary teachers wanting to expand their experience. If you're interested dm me! @Headteacherchat
Thank goodness I'm leaving education at the end of this academic year. I will never have to do this again. If I didn't leave, I honestly believe I'd be dead within the next five years. I'm only 40, and have been a head for 12 years. 2/2
Just came out the other end of an Ofsted inspection. It was horrifically stressful, multiple late (very late!) nights and early starts. I managed 15 hours of sleep from the time I got the call. I have Covid now. My body is so run down from the immense pressure. 1/2
@Headteacherchat We catch up every day, and generally have a meeting for about an hour each week. We also leave notes, emails, texts and whatsapps for each other. We're both on the same wavelength so even though it sounds chaotic, it isn't.
@Headteacherchat I finish end of August & move to a charity sector role- it pays £12k less but because of tax, child benefit, the savings I will make on travel and the better holidays (!) I will only be about £200 worse off each month. Worth it for the work life balance I'll get!
@RogersHistory I excluded a child after they planned an attack on a member of staff. The LA came down on me like a tonne of bricks- demanding to know why it happened and why I couldn't try something else. I can totally see why it would be easier to not exclude rather than deal with the LA.
@PastoralPolly If she's a S20 then it's up to the parents. It's the same as if a child isn't in care, and the parents refuse. Poor kid. Hopefully the social worker can persuade them to change their minds?
I have resigned. I will not be a headteacher after this school year. I feel relief and guilt in equal measure. Not sure what I'll do next, hoping it will be as rewarding but less annihilating.
