Three weeks ago Pauline Hanson said: “I don’t believe foreigners should own housing in Australia or our farming land.”

Then Gina Rinehart — One Nation’s biggest backer and the person who bought Hanson a $2 million private plane took the stage arguing Australia should offer free land and even islands to foreign companies including Israeli defence firms, Taiwanese chip manufacturers and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

She then handed Hanson a toy bulldozer on stage while the crowd made engine noises, openly praising the Trump/Musk approach to government.

Meanwhile, Rinehart’s reported $1.4 billion SpaceX investment has surged in value, while ordinary investors saw their allocations heavily scaled back.

This is why Hanson’s promise to cut $90 billion in “government waste” deserves scrutiny. Around $35 billion of those claimed savings have no clearly identified source, and many of the figures have not been independently modelled.

If you campaign against foreign ownership but stand beside billionaires calling for free Australian land for foreign corporations, people are entitled to ask who is really shaping the agenda.

The private plane is starting to look like a very cheap investment.
