❤️SHE MATTERS: NATALIE GLACSIK!❤️
Just 14 months ago, Natalie Glacsik's young son drowned.
On Friday, the dedicated mum and business owner was repeatedly struck by a vehicle. That vehicle was allegedly driven by her husband. Natalie died at her home in Pokolbin, NSW. She had no chance of surviving. He is now charged with murder.
Natalie is the 61st Australian woman killed this year.
Today, certain media outlets are breathlessly reporting about the value of Natalie's property and business. One media outlet even called the alleged killer by his first name throughout their article, almost as if he is the reporter's best mate. I kid you not.
Media are also describing Natalie as having 'marital issues' in the lead-up to her death - now there's a euphemism if ever I've heard one.
Just because police say there was no domestic violence, doesn't actually mean there was no domestic violence. What it means is, Natalie had not had contact with authorities about any abusive behaviours. The reality is - and I don't know how many times this needs to be said - KILLING SOMEONE DOES NOT HAPPEN IN A VACUUM. There is always precursors to domestic violence murders. Always. This may not always be in the form of physical violence - it can often look like emotional abuse, coercive control, financial control and so on.
There is an AVO application between the accused killer and his adult son in process.
It was this son who called police to check on Natalie's welfare and it was during this welfare check the animal-loving highly regarded woman was found.
The reporting around Natalie's murder shows Australian media outlets have a long road ahead of them if we hope to see balanced and informed journalism about the nature of violence against women.
Less euphemisms, no more articles focusing on property values and good bloke narratives and tossing out this 'no previous domestic violence' shit would be a great place to start.
REST IN POWER NATALIE GLACSIK! ❤️

❤️SHE MATTERS: NATALIE JANE FRAHM!❤️
Now, we can't even sit in our cars without being murdered.
Yesterday, Natalie Jane Frahm was sitting in her car near her house in South Mackay,
when her male neighbor allegedly walked up to the window and shot her dead.
In the vehicle were two teenage children.
He also shot a man who came to Natalie's rescue.
Natalie is the 44th Australian woman killed this year.
Every woman killed this year has died as a result of violence committed while they were doing the most mundane and ordinary of things - picking their child up at after-school activities, walking with a mate down a street, shopping .... THE MOST MUNDANE OF THINGS ... AND YET, VIOLENT MEN WON'T LET US LIVE IN PEACE ... OR EVEN LIVE.
Natalie was a doting mum, a business owner, a martial arts lover, a much-respected and adored community member. She deserved to live.
As I write, 43 of the 44 women killed this year were allegedly lost to acts perpetrated by violent men. Almost all of them knew their killers - some alleged killers were family, some were neighbours and other associates.
And yes, some women have been killed by strangers.
Regardless of the context of their deaths, they all matter. Natalie matters.
