Cet automne, pour la première fois depuis 250 ans, ma famille ne récoltera pas d'olives au Liban.

Nos 600 oliviers ont été arrachés du sol par l'armée israélienne, racines comprises, et emportés. Les plus vieux avaient 500 ans !

Cette terre, mon grand-père la tenait de son arrière-grand-père. En deux siècles et demi, ma famille a acheté de la terre. Elle n'en a jamais vendu un mètre, pas un seul jour. Chez nous, on ne construit pas sur la terre. On y plante. Ces arbres ont survécu à plusieurs guerres. Ils ont survécu à tout.

Regardez les deux photos. À gauche, notre terre le 25 juin, la veille de la signature de l'accord entre le Liban et Israël. À droite, la même terre le 20 juillet.

Il ne reste rien. Et c’est justement ça, la preuve. Un incendie laisse des troncs noirs debout. Une frappe laisse des cratères. Ici, pas un tronc calciné, pas une souche, pas un débris. Une terre nue, raclée, griffée par les chenilles des engins. Déterrer un olivier de 500 ans sans le tuer demande des pelleteuses, un savoir-faire, des camions et une destination. Ce n’est pas un dégât de guerre. C’est une opération, sur une terre où il n’y avait ni armes, ni combattants, ni présence militaire. Ma famille n'a jamais été liée de près ou de loin au Hezbollah, et elle ne le sera jamais. Il n'y avait que des arbres, et des gens qui les taillent depuis huit générations.

D'après les témoignages qui nous parviennent, ces arbres auraient été emportés de l'autre côté de la frontière, vers Israël.

L'accord signé entre le Liban et Israël, censé préparer la paix, protège les biens des civils. Je demande simplement qu'il soit appliqué : que le sort des arbres déterrés soit établi, que ceux qui sont encore vivants soient rendus. Si nos arbres sont vivants quelque part, ils peuvent revenir. Je ne cherche pas une vengeance. Je cherche une adresse !

J'ai hésité à écrire ces lignes, pour ne pas provoquer des réactions d'un côté comme de l'autre. Mais je refuse de faire le deuil de ces oliviers. Dans ces arbres vit l'âme de mon grand-père, ancien général de la police libanaise, un homme qui a toujours cru dans la paix, dans les humains et dans la lumière. Il taillait ces arbres à mains nues. Il répétait : “on ne vend pas la terre, on la transmet”
Je lui dois de ne pas me taire.

They won’t be amongst the 6% that’d join up/fight tho (recent survey). B/c as ‘real’ patriots they’d refuse to fight for ‘THIS UK hating *** govt (*insert name of whichever party is currently in). They’d stay behind to ‘protect our (are) women & girls’.

Wherever it’s possible when institutional/procedural corner cutting/mistakes do come out, ‘fear of being perceived as racist’ is currently being disingenuously utilised as a supposed excuse.
Why do I say it’s disingenuous? Because no professional worth their salt would knowingly prioritise avoiding that possibility over taking action to avoid known risk of physical danger, to the person themselves, let alone the public.
And no person is going to be ‘converted’ to being racist against their own colour by a one/two/three hour long DEI awareness presentation. Anti-white racism by white police officers isn’t a thing. Going for the lowest hanging fruit, yes. As is (very widespread) being a power-drunk overgrown school bully that’s a condescending/patronising d**k whenever an opportunity arises.
In short, what you’re seeing isn’t anti-white racism, it’s how most of them treat everyone. If there are multiple ‘options’, the easiest target will cop it.

Same hubris/ego mechanism as when Drs cannot admit they don’t know &/or their patient does. Double down. Frame patient as problem. Exaggerating. Lying/faking. Ditto the institution whistleblower. The only variable is how long it is until the ‘detractor’ is proven right & the truth comes out via tragedy/disaster.
Or not - in the case of the patient that’s proven right by their own death there’s rarely resultant awareness…no public revelation, no professional accountability, instead successful coverup by a well oiled, very well practiced machine. As the old saying goes, Drs / the Negligence & Homicide Service buries its mistakes.

Stockton Rush said that on camera 11 months before Titan imploded on its way to the Titanic. 6:59

He was inside it, piloting the sub.

5 years earlier, OceanGate’s safety director, David Lochridge, had warned that Titan’s carbon-fiber hull was not being properly tested. He said its acoustic monitoring system might detect the hull breaking only “milliseconds before an implosion.”

An alarm that could tell five people they were about to die - but not early enough to save them.

Rush fired Lochridge. OceanGate then sued him. 6:40

That same year, veteran submersible experts warned Rush that Titan’s experimental design could have “catastrophic” consequences. They urged him to submit it for independent certification.

He refused.

Rush called himself an “outlier.” He believed the industry’s safety rules no longer made engineering sense. 2:36

At the same time, he insisted that Titan’s most important component - the pressure vessel surrounding its passengers - was “rock solid.” 3:04

Every objection strengthened the same story in his mind: everyone else was trapped inside the box, and he was the only person brave enough to leave it.

“I think I can do this just as safely by breaking the rules.” 7:11

On June 18, 2023, Rush entered Titan with four passengers, including a father and his 19-year-old son. One hour and 45 minutes into the descent, communication disappeared.

The sub had imploded.

The Coast Guard later called the tragedy preventable.

But Titan is more than a story about bad engineering. It is a story about what happens when a warning threatens the identity of the person receiving it.

Rush had built his identity around ignoring the industry. After that, every warning became proof that he was ahead of it. Testing sounded like fear. Certification looked like surrender. Caution became cowardice.

Titan’s hull failed in 2023.

The decision system had failed five years earlier.
