Strengthening inner-party democracy is not an internal matter.
It is a national democratic imperative.
The Youth League Convention held earlier this year as part the @EU_ENoP WYDE-political parties project in partnership with @GreenForum & KEPHRA reaffirmed that political renewal in Kenya must begin inside political parties.
Have a look at what young leaders are saying:
We just concluded the National Women League Convention in partnership with @EU_ENoP under the WYDE political parties program. The convention brought together grassroots women leaders from 27 counties.
✨️During this convention, the women, representing UGM Party, engaged with key party documents — the constitution, manifesto, and nomination rules — seeking to understand and reshape them into tools that reflect equality, fairness, and inclusivity.
⏭️More importantly, they shared their truths.
✨️Stories of being overlooked, lied to, or pushed aside within political spaces.
✨️Of working tirelessly for parties that later denied them nomination tickets.
✨️Of the pain that comes with being dismissed simply for being a woman, a widow, or a single mother.
💡Yet, they also shared stories of courage, of resilience, of hope, and the will to keep fighting. Because when political parties shut women out, the nation loses out on great opportunities for development.
This is why this convention was important. To make sure our party structures and policies are not only fair, but gender-responsive.
A step towards ensuring that the promise of democracy truly includes everyone.
Women remain underrepresented in political spaces, yet they are the ones who shape politics at the grassroots.
During the Women League Convention held under the @EU_ENoP WYDE Project, we met inspiring women leaders from across the country. Each one has dared to step into politics and continues to drive change in her community.
As we look toward the 2027 general elections, we want their influence seen, valued, and strengthened. We encourage more women to step forward, take up leadership, and keep winning.

Representation matters. We want to have more women in various leadership positions. For this to happen, women must feel safe within political spaces.
This is why the national women league convention, implemented by @HumanRightsMPs as part of the @EU_ENoP WYDE political parties project, was important.
We want to ensure that political parties set the pace, by having gender-responsive policy & governance frameworks.

She believes women too can rise all the way to the presidency.

In Bungoma County, many women & girls experience #GBV in silence. Bungoma has been ranked first among all the 47 counties with the highest percentage(34%) of women who experience #SexualViolence. Many young girls are still forced to undergo FGM & Early marriages.
