We are super-excited to see our first original paper published in @JCellBiol. Fantastic collaboration with @KalocsayMarian@GygiLab@MaxNACHURY to establish quantitative, time-resolved #cilia#proteomics.
Very proud of our first PhD student Elena May! https://t.co/7mpvuAHgJi
Hundreds of scientists who study cancer and aging have made an easily avoidable but significant mistake, deploying the wrong antibody to test for a key protein, according to a researcher who exposes errors in the biomedical literature.

.@CytoLabKoc show PCM1 multimerization scaffolds centriolar satellite assembly & drives stepwise client recruitment. Disrupting this homeostasis impairs ciliary signaling & #mitosis. Key insights into how this membraneless organelle forms & remodels https://t.co/Epp1nPSsqX
We are very proud of our @Saar_Uni https://t.co/7vwDuySly4. student Smilla Koy for winning the Euro #Cilia2027 image competition. A well-deserved recognition of her amazing work. We're lucky to have such talent in the lab!
🏆 GRAND PRIZE WINNER 🏆
Congrats to Smilla-Maria Koy (BSc Student, Mick Lab, Saarland University, Germany) for winning our Image Competition!
🔬 "IMCD3 Spheroid with Cilia" captures primary cilia emerging into the lumen to show cell polarity.

A PhD's success depends more on the fit between the student, the advisor, and the lab than on the specific topic being studied (it barely matters at all).
Similarly, a lab's success depends more on how excited (or miserable) its researchers are than on the precise project they are working on (it could be virtually anything).
This information isn't in papers or in grant proposals, you have to ask the researchers.
This ‘fundamental’ study uncovers how directing pyruvate into mitochondria can shrink cells by shifting their metabolism away from building amino acids and proteins.

I am thrilled to be featured in the ‘First Persons’ through the decades article in Journal of Cell Science.. It is honoring for me to appear on the same page as David Stephens, an outstanding scientist, leader, and mentor in the cilia field, who sadly passed away in 2024.
A new #CryoET study shows that the protein ZapD helps organise FtsZ filaments into stable ring-like structures in building bacterial division machinery.

First pizza lunch after a whirlwind week moving into our brand-new research building. Exhausted, but absolutely thrilled by the incredible facilities & lab space. Can’t wait to dive back into science.
A few benches are still waiting for curious minds: Come, join us! #AcademicJob
"For half an hour, I vented everything I had been holding in for months … my supervisor listened patiently, then calmly offered a line I’ll never forget: 'You are here to learn to ride a bicycle, not to invent a bicycle.'
That one sentence landed softly, but it cracked something open." #ScienceWorkingLife https://t.co/e9cfXVzB5c
The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard
More on collective behavior: Our new Annual Review of Biophysics piece - with the stellar Danielle Chase - explores how animals sense, share information, and make group decisions. In honeybees and beyond 🐝

I think a good rule of thumb is to spend at least as much time thinking about your data as you did obtaining it. It's common for people to spend a lot less time thinking than doing which gives rise to all kinds of problems.
A new paper reports that the primary mechanism of capsaicin entry into the vanilloid-binding site of TRPV1 is a targetable hydrophobic tunnel at the TRPV1-membrane interface

Militsin, Palty et al. reveal novel crosstalk btwn STIM proteins & IP3Rs, whereby STIM activation alters the spatial pattern of IP3R-mediated Ca2+ release, shifting it from a promigratory localized signal to a diffuse, migration-suppressing signal https://t.co/GZYiF9VRLg
