#Eri101:
📘 No ifs or buts: the UN Charter, AU Constitutive Act, & international law are unequivocal on sovereignty, territorial integrity, & political independence.
🚘Treating neighboring states like junkyard cars—stripped for parts to fill perceived gaps—is illegal & dangerous.
- An opaque MOU signed on stealth mode in January 2024 with Somaliland in flagrant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity!
- Audacious statement in the House of People's Representatives few days ago arguing that Ethiopia can indeed "invade and annex sovereign coastal territories of its neighbour in the Red Sea a la Golan Heights"! and,
- Reuters revelation these days on the regime's reported hosting of RSF training camp in south western Ethiopia under the bidding of UAE!
Potemkin Party's regional policy seems to be increasingly rudderless and at odds with, and in contravention of, established norms and parameters of good neighbourliness, international law, and the AU Constitutive Act.

PRESIDENT ISAIAS AFWERKI’S INTERVIEW WITH LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS PART II
(This Second Part focuses on the situation in Sudan; Ethiopia’s war agenda; and PIA visits to Egypt and Saudi Arabia)
*"... When an inept, bankrupt, cowardly, and greedy entity presents such a fabricated agenda to plunge the people into turmoil, what does it truly signify? The war declared is truly astonishing. We have witnessed many conflicts throughout history, and previous Ethiopian regimes have certainly waged wars, but the current rhetoric does not have precedents. Why was such a bizarre war proclamation issued? The first war decree is actually against the Ethiopian people themselves. This is what is being presented as a pretext under the 'Two Waters' banner. Generally speaking, the war proclamation spares no side".
*"...Since the period of our armed struggle, we have maintained a consistent principle in our national policy: the pursuit of regional stability. This is rooted in the reality that in the absence of a stable neighborhood, we cannot thrive in isolation; it is simply not possible. Therefore, creating regional stability is not merely a choice—it is a strategic obligation. This is not only our responsibility but the collective duty of every nation in this region. Ensuring the peace and stability of our neighborhood is incumbent upon all of us".

🦁 Eritrea: Strategic Calm in a Noisy Neighborhood 🇪🇷
🔴 Eritrea does not react to noise — it moves with strategy.
While Ethiopia’s PM, war-driven generals, and PP cadres amplify reckless rhetoric, Eritrea remains composed, calculated, and forward-looking.
“The lion does not turn when small animals make noise.” 🦁
⚡ What the Provocations Are Actually Doing:
🟢 Strengthening Eritrea’s Strategic Position
🟥 🇪🇬 Egypt
• Quiet but deepening security & economic coordination
• Expansion of Assab Port & multi-sector cooperation underway
🟦 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
• Growing economic & Red Sea security alignment
• Shared interest in regional stability & trade protection
🟫 🇸🇩 Sudan (SAF)
• Enhanced coordination
• Tangible progress amid Sudan’s existential struggle
➡️ Bottom Line:
The louder the provocations, the more Eritrea’s strategic value and alliances expand.
📉 Why the Noise Has No Bite:
🟥 🇪🇹 Internal Collapse
• Multiple conflicts: Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela
• Army overstretched & losing ground
🟦 Nile Tensions
• Severe diplomatic strain with 🇪🇬 Egypt & 🇸🇩 Sudan
🟥 Sudan Crisis Fallout
• Allegations of involvement with RSF militias
• Trust deficit with neighbors deepening
🟨 Economic Freefall
• Inflation, currency collapse, public despair
🧭 Strategic Reality:
🔹 Eritrea moves quietly, patiently, effectively
🔹 Geography + discipline = leverage
🔹 Stability attracts partners — chaos repels them
“Strength is measured by restraint, not by volume.”
⏳ A storm is clearly forming —
Time will reveal who built foundations… and who built illusions.

On the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President Isaias Afwerki has departed, in the mid-morning hours today, to Saudi Arabia for a four-day working visit.
During their stay in the Kingdom, President Isaias and his delegation are scheduled to hold meetings with senior Saudi Government officials on enhancement of bilateral ties of cooperation and partnership as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
President Isaias Afwerki met, at the Government Guest House in the late evening hours yesterday, Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris for extensive discussions on latest developments in the Sudan as well as status and progress of bilateral ties between the two countries.
President Isaias reiterated Eritrea's commitment in supporting Sudan in its efforts to overcome the prevailing heavy challenges. Prime Minister Dr. Kamal, for his part, expressed the Sudanese people's profound appreciation for Eritrea's historic and principled stance.
President Isaias Afwerki also met with the Governor of the Darfur Region, Mr. Minni Arko Minnawi and Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sissi. The discussions focused on the overall situation in Sudan and possible pathways for resolving the current crisis.
On the invitation of General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, President Isaias Afwerki arrived in Port Sudan in the early afternoon hours today for a working visit.
President Isaias Afwerki and his entourage were accorded warm welcome by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and senior Government Ministers on their arrival, by road travel, at the entrance of Port Sudan.
President Isaias Afwerki's visit is both symbolic and vivid gesture of the warm and robust solidarity that Eritrea harbours towards the people of Sudan and their Government in these times of adversity.
The residents of the Port city came out in their thousands to welcome President Isaias Afwerki, chanting in celebration of the historic relations between Eritrea and Sudan.
President Isaias Afwerki and his host, the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, held extensive meeting at the Government Headquarters in Port Sudan in the late afternoon hours today.
The meeting focused on the strengthening of bilateral ties, developments in the situation in Sudan, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.
President Isaias Afwerki reiterated Eritrea's firm and principled stance on, and support for, the unity and sovereignty of Sudan. The President further underlined that Eritrea will continue to stand on the side of Sudan until the achievement of durable peace.
General Al-Burhan, for his part, paid tribute to Eritrea's position that is anchored on the historic ties between the two peoples and affirmed that he will exert vigorous efforts to consolidate these ties for the benefit of the two nations.
Another vivid display of the Potemkin Party's incorrigible preference for optics, political duplicity, and hollow posturing instead of substance. Let us revert to the fundamentals:
1. The Five-Point Peace Agreement - Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia - that was signed in Asmara on July 9, 2018, was anchored on cardinal pillars of international law; i.e. full respect of each-others sovereignty and territorial integrity.
2. Indeed, Article 1. of the Agreement explicitly heralds the "end of the state of war between Ethiopia and Eritrea and the ushering in of "a new era of peace and friendship". Articles 4 & 5 announce the "full implementation" of the EEBC Award; and, the "joint endeavor of both countries to ensure regional peace, development and cooperation", respectively.
3. This Agreement occurred 18 years after the "final and binding" EEBC Arbitral Award that was rendered in April 2002. The state of continued hostility that prevailed between the two countries stemmed from the willful decision of the incumbent Ethiopia regimes not to abide by the international agreements they had signed as well as the failure of the relevant international powers/guarantors to take punitive measures against the recalcitrant party.
4. But the positive and sensible stance that the new Ethiopian government took, even if belatedly, in 2018 was sadly and suddenly reversed in December 2023 when it reverted to a more virulent variant of the expansionist and irredentist agendas of its predecessors; dashing the optimism and euphoria that the 2018 Peace Agreement had engendered for a new chapter of enduring regional stability and cooperation between the two neighbouring peoples and countries.
5. The Potemkin Party went beyond illicit claims of "sovereign access to the sea.. and reclaiming by force the stolen port of Assab", to desecrate and "delegitimize" Eritrea's inalienable and hard-won independence, publicly setting its mission as "the correction of the historical event that transpired in 1991 - i.e. Eritrea's independence". The daily barrage of media campaigns to whip up "national sentiment"; the provocative saber-rattling have been, and remain, intensive and boundless to this day.
6. As we have emphasized repeatedly, the incubator and epicenter of the unnecessary and avoidable tension; the party that is bracing for renewed conflict is the Potemkin Party alone. In the event, the panacea or antidote for the looming crisis is crystal clear: adherence to fundamental pillars of international law in good-faith and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of thy neighbour! "ካብ ጉይይ ምውዓል፡ ክሳድ ምሓዝ"፥ከም ዝበሃል።

Double-speak and duplicity of Potemkin Party (PP) officials is again in full and glaring display!
Only last Thursday, PP's Foreign Minister tried to re-package, essentially to hoodwink the diplomatic community, Ethiopia's two-year long reckless war agenda and incessant saber-rattling for "sovereign access to the sea" in "self-defense" language.
But on the morrow of the FM's speech delivered in English, a senior General in the Ethiopian army pleads, in Amharic, to the various internal armed movements "to give the ENDF a respite "as they are bracing for a "larger mission".
This is indeed typical of the war-mongering agenda that PP senior political and military officials have been, and continue to convey, to their domestic audiences in cryptic, and often more explicit, terms.
https://t.co/xWvLN4deKP
Potemkin Party (PP) trolls feign annoyance, get into hysterical commotion, and disparage Eritrea's routine diplomatic activities and/or Presidential visits to some country. And they have the audacity to portray Eritrea as a "lackey and doing the bidding of" some foreign country; these days, the tantrum is on "Eritrea-Egypt" ties!
Need to remind them to swallow these dosage of reality in historical terms. Indeed:
* It is the Ethiopian regime which solicited the diplomatic and political clout of the US to suppress Eritrea's right of decolonization in the 1940s. The overwhelming historical evidence on these machinations have since long been available in the public domain.
*Ethiopian regimes relied on US and Israeli military and technical support in the first decades; and on USSR (and Allies) massive military support in the later decades in their attempts to defeat Eritrea's thirty year war of national liberation. This is yesterday's history fresh in the minds of the contemporary generation (including Gen Z) and that cannot be whimsically erased or wished away.
*Even these days, the Potemkin Party relies heavily on massive international development assistance; opaque ties of dependence on some countries; and IMF bailouts as it pursues belligerent, reckless and unlawful policies against its neighbour under the agenda of "sovereign access to the sea".
Eritrea's policy choices of self-respect and political independence are otherwise well known to merit elaboration.
US State Department "September 2025 Investment Climate Report on Eritrea", is replete with a litany of factual inaccuracies and policy misinterpretations. In more broader terms, the utility/validity of these unsolicited, intrusive, and condescending annual "bill of health certificates" is tenuous as they are mostly a relic of old times. Hopefully, these redundant branches will be duly overhauled by the Trump Administration.
2nd Letter of Ethiopia's Foreign Minister, (2 October last week), to the UNSG is astounding in its audacity and constitutes an act of duplicity in its extreme!
As the local proverb goes: "ጭጉራፍ'ሲ ሃሪማ ተእዊ!" , which roughly translates into: "A sling emits a shrill cry as it hits its target".
Day-in and day-out for the last two years, the PP's policy mantra has revolved on acquiring "sovereign access to the sea through legal means if possible, and military force if necessary". The intense propaganda campaign aimed at whipping up irredentist ambitions has been accompanied by reckless and provocative saber-rattling.
In the circumstances, the latest letter is a deceitful charade; an insult to the intelligence of the Ethiopian people and the international community at large.
For its part, Eritrea has explicitly stated from the outset, that "it will not, as ever, be drawn into such alleys and platforms" urging all concerned "not to be provoked by these events"; MOI Press Release, 16 October 2023.
In this vein, President Isaias Afwerki further underlined, in his interview with the local press in July last year: "We have no appetite for war... We have no territorial claims or ambitions against our neighbours. But as history attests, we know how to defend our country when and if attacked. The PP is bragging about Drones and long-range missiles, tanks, etc. it has purchased, and the massive wave of attacks that it will unleash against Eritrea. This is mind-boggling and can only be entertained by those who do not know history. Our response is: do not plunge the people of Ethiopia into a futile war: focus on solving your real problems...ዓዲ ወዓሉ! (Stay put)".
https://t.co/dkidqtYCZX
PP's obsession (yesterday's speech in "House of People's Representatives") with the "Two Waters" - Blue Nile and Red Sea - is bizarre and mind-boggling by all standards.
There is no palpable geographical overlap, intersection or confluence; legal analogy; geopolitical symmetry or other shared attributes between these two divergent themes that one can invoke by any stretch of imagination.
Historically, forces of aggression and domination have always conjured-up some deceitful palliative to rationalize and justify their abominable agendas of coveting and usurping inalienable people's rights, and/or national wealth and endowment, of their victim countries.
In this perspective, the Potemkin Party's gimmick is too crass and pathetic "to sell" even by these historical and decadent ploys.
Indeed, it could have been shrugged off as inconsequential/comical delusion if it were not fraught with stoking and igniting yet another unnecessary and avoidable bout of conflict in a region bedevilled by perennial upheavals and attendant suffering. This is the quagmire that the Potemkin Party and its ilk seem to be incubating without let-up almost on a daily basis.
Tampering with sovereignty of nations, the AU Constitutive Act, the UN Charter, and established international norms, including the sanctity of colonial boundaries, is to undermine the very foundation of peace and stability in Africa and beyond.
A dangerous slippery slope! 🚨
