As we stand on the shoulders of giants, we remember 1895: Röntgen discovers X-rays. Characteristic and continuum X-rays later became essential electron-microscopy signals—a key step toward modern microanalysis. #MicroscopyHistory #Microanalysis

At the president's reception we recognize the volunteers and award winners who work throughout the year to make #MM2026 the incredible conference it is.

Thank you to everyone for all your efforts!

1644: Ever wonder where the unit “Torr” came from? Named for Torricelli, it recalls his sustained experimental vacuum, an early step toward the low-pressure paths later needed for much of our modern microanalytical beams. #VacuumScience #MicroAnalysis

Could in-situ Ar ion milling shape the future of EBSD prep? Jia et al. integrated a broad ion beam into an SEM, enabling iterative polishing and analysis without breaking vacuum. Al alloy reached 99.98% EBSD indexing. https://t.co/HLAtypPM5z #EBSD #SEM

1864: Maxwell formulates electromagnetic field theory, unifying electricity, magnetism, and light. The framework underpins electromagnetic lenses, deflectors, and beam–field interactions—a step toward modern electron microscopy. https://t.co/hjHCX4wBda

SEM-BEX acquires BSE images and elemental maps together. Webb et al. screened environmental filters in ~20 min per sample and detected transparent Cl-bearing films, while noting limits in polymer ID and automated counts.

We stand on the shoulders of giants.

In 1800, Alessandro Volta’s voltaic pile produced a steady electric current. That breakthrough helped pave the way for electromagnetic research, electron sources, and the stable power used by modern microscopes.

Fluorine analysis in topaz is complicated by orientation effects in EPMA. Loges et al. present a non-destructive Raman method and resolve micrometer-scale F heterogeneity in greisen topaz. https://t.co/lfoykHeEGb #Microanalysis #Raman
