Director of Support Groups, IMF. Oncology nurse since 2006; Myeloma SG Leader; Blessed Mom of 3; Doubly blessed Bonus Mom of 4; Honored to be Nonna of 2
Incredible, inspiring, and exhausting trip to San Antonio for the 51st annual Oncology Nursing Society Congress. I have been an oncology nurse for 20 years and still continue to learn everyday; this year’s Congress was no exception. @IMFnurseMyeloma@JWiework
The work doesn’t stop here. Myeloma Action Month may be ending, but our commitment continues every single day.
Let’s keep going and show the world that we are #MoreThanMyeloma .
To the patients showing unwavering strength, the care partners giving so much of themselves, the clinicians and researchers advancing care, and the advocates working tirelessly behind the scenes, this progress belongs to all of you.
There is a severe lack of availability across the world to all classes of myeloma treatments and these treatments improve outcomes. Advocacy in so many ways is so imperative! #MyelomaActionMonth#MoreThanMyeloma
Day 28: Immunotherapy in myeloma
There are many different classes of drugs approved in the treatment of myeloma, but those that engage the patient's own immune system have been the gamechangers when it comes to deep, durable remissions.
In addition, financial & insurance barriers exist, as these therapies are not inexpensive. These are only the barriers here in the US, nevermind the rest of the globe.
Day 27: Measurable Action!
Yesterday, the @IMFmyeloma#advocacy team brought 24 advocates to Capitol Hill to engage in 47 meetings with members of congress. Copying @RiottoMa words on patient voice in advocacy. What powerful action during this #MyelomaActionMonth !
*prior authorizations, with the Improving Seniors Timely Access To Care Act
*promote clinical trials with the Clinical Trials Modernization Act
*oral parity through the Cancer Drug Parity Act
These will not only help the myeloma coMMunity, but the entire patient population.
