Teachers, WE LOVE YOU!
“We are all the same” is often a sentiment of good intention. But we are not the same, our stories, experiences and consequently, our mindsets vary a great deal. Recognizing other’s stories and making space to validate every one of them is a the work of a school counselor.
And tacos. Let’s teach our students the facts about Cinco de Mayo so we can evolve from a place of understanding. To avoid cultural appropriation, there must be room for Mexican culture to assign significance rather than American culture doing so.
Let us not forget the real reason Mexico celebrates May 5, it is not their Independence Day. Rather, it is when a small group of outnumbered soldiers were victorious against impending invasion of French troops. Cultural appropriation tends to make this day about fake mustaches

If a teacher is absent we call a sub.
If the principal is absent no one cares.
If the secretary is absent we need to shut down the school!
Happy #administrativeprofessionalsday! Thanks for being difference makers every day!
