For obvious reasons, the situation in Ukraine hit peak interest in school. Students keen for answers/reassurance. Tip of the iceberg but the ‘conflict at a glance’ looks to the geography, history/politics of the dispute. Hopefully it provides accessible insight. #historyteacher

Okay, here’s a long(ish) thread now I’ve had a chance to calm down.
The Roma people are of Northern Indian origin. In Europe, Romas are visibly brown, which is what led to a history of persecution, that started off with 500 years of slavery and led to the Holocaust. (1/)

Exactly 225 years ago today, on 14 May 1796, Edward Jenner applied fluid from a cowpox blister to the arm of James Phipps in the first part of an experiment that eventually proved mild cowpox infection protected against smallpox. Jenner’s technique became known as vaccination.
