I was looking at #JusticeForNoor this morning and saw that many people described him as mentally unstable. Please stop that. He planned this. It is not how mental health operates. Misogyny and ego are not mental health issues. We need to stop with these excuses.
10. For those who condemn feminism - this is on you.
All you have to do is listen to women’s stories, but you don’t, you fear that if you listen, you will have to share. At the least don’t pretend to be on our side. Let us grieve with our own people.
#JusticeForNoor
9. Those who are against the domestic violence prevention bill - this is on you.
We aren’t “NGO aunties” - we are on the frontlines who experience sexism and who have dealt with #GBV and we have only asked for what is due to us by law and religion, by morality and humanity.
8. Noor had a contract with the state - the state should have protected her. And now, the state should get her justice.
Having said that there is hardly an honour-based murderer who has been tried and punished in Pakistan.
#JusticeForNoor
7. Those who are going to be using this to push for some agenda, be it anti-rich etc, please know that you owe it to this young girl to stay on point. This is violence against women because women are a soft target.
This is not rich people being rich people. This is #GBV
6. Those who have made this look like a one-off thing, please go back to newspaper headlines replete with men feeling they can harm a woman because they felt discomfort - from arson to beheadings.
Your surprise is a gift from your privilege and ignorance.
#JusticeForNoor
5. Those who are appalled that this happened in elite Islamabad should know that education has nothing on the low status of women in this country, education only complements it.
Want to solve for a better status of women, start by looking at our global rankings and apologise.
4. Those who are asking parents to be vigilant about what happens to their girls - please ask yourself if vigilance ever served to prevent crime?
What prevents crime is punishment.
#JusticeForNoor
3. For those who are condemning Noor, #RIP for being with a man she was not married to, please understand that women who live with men they are married to find the same fate.
No marriage protects women from violence, most only accelerate it.
#JusticeForNoor
2. For those who are bragging about having protective fathers, please ask yourself what your fathers are protecting you from?
Patriarchy is what fathers are protecting you from, and patriarchy needs to be fought - not by avoidance but by action.
#JusticeForNoor
The barbaric murder of young woman, Noor, in Islamabad is yet another horrifying reminder that women have been & are brutalized & killed with impunity. This must end. We are committed to ensuring no one is above the law & culprits having influence & power cannot simply "get away"
I hope Noor Mukadam’s gruesome murder turns into an APS moment for our nation and we stop violence against women. Too many women get abused, battered, raped and killed in Pak. New laws are needed. Social mores need to change. Men need to behave. Women should be heard & believed.
Hi, as a person living in Palestine I can confirm that we are being ethnically cleansed. Actually have been for the past 73 years. But don’t take my word for it. What do I know? Believe the white woman in a Manhattan high rise saying “Palestinians do face some challenges but..”
