It’s National Teach Spanish Week! We are proud to celebrate our Midland ISD Spanish teachers who bring language and culture to life every day. Through their classrooms, students build communication skills and expand their understanding of the world.
Before you say “turn and talk,” do a quick QSSSA prep check:
Is the question worth discussing?
Did students get think time?
Do they have a useful stem?
Do they know how the share will work?
A little structure makes the conversation much more purposeful!
#QSSSA
Before students leave the lesson, make the key learning stick. Revisit the goal, name the big takeaway, and give students an opportunity to articulate what they learned.
Teach it. Practice it. Stamp it.
Spanish teachers came together to calibrate, collaborate, and strengthen our approach to proficiency-based assessments. Shared expectations and aligned scoring help build a consistent understanding of what proficiency looks like at each level. 🎯
We honor the rich cultures, histories, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic communities and celebrate the students, families, and educators who enrich our schools every day.
September 15 marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month! We look forward to celebrating the rich traditions, leaders, and cultural history that enrich our @Midland_ISD schools and West Texas community every day. 🌟 #HispanicHeritageMonth
DZ RLA teachers engaged in explicit instruction with clear alignment across the lesson, grounding student thinking and responses in text evidence to support stronger student outcomes. @EaglesDe92337@tricia_teran@MISDTandL
We kicked off our LOTE District PLCs today! Grateful for teachers who are committed to growing their practice and continually improving instruction for our students!
A great visit to Ms. Farmer’s 1st grade class @LoneStarTrElem! Students were up and moving, sharing opinions, justifying their thinking, and learning that it’s okay to have different perspectives. A great way to build student voice and classroom discourse!
🌟 Thank you to our LOTE Leadership Cadre—Isamar Marmolejo Cavazos, Jazmin Sanchez & Chelsea Sigala—for helping bring our shared vision for World Languages to life by leading our learning and modeling engaging, communicative instruction! 🌎
Day 2 of PL put communicative teaching into action! Our teachers became language learners themselves—learning Korean and experiencing a high-impact LOTE lesson firsthand—while also exploring AP skills across all levels and interactive notebooks.
Day 1 of our Back-to-School Learning put COMMUNICATION at the center! Teachers explored the 4 Ts: TEKS, Tasks, Teachers & Tools, Depth & Complexity, and lesson preparation—all focused on building communicative classrooms.
Such a wonderful learning opportunity for our LOTE teachers over the last 2 days! Teachers were analyzing and developing tasks appropriate for each level, with their eyes on what is expected for AP. LOTE #ExpectsExcellence and is designing instruction accordingly!
Celebrating positive growth across Midland ISD! ❤️💙
This progress reflects the hard work of our students, teachers, and leaders and a continued focus on strong instruction. Proud of the growth and ready to keep building on this momentum!
