“The blockade is due to begin at 5.30pm local time. It is a little less sweeping than Mr Trump suggested. In a statement Central Command (CENTCOM), the Pentagon command that runs operations in the Middle East, said it would target all ships entering and exiting Iranian ports, allowing others to pass to and from other Gulf countries.”

So, a selective blockade to thread the needle of pressuring Iran and allowing the strait to be open to all others.

Trump says the US Navy will now block the Strait to prevent Iran from its illegal tolling. So the US is now completely closing the Strait, whereas Iran was selectively controlling it? That's a worse move. A naval blockade can be an act of war. So what’s going to happen when a Chinese cargo ship tries to go through the Strait? As noted earlier, operational success does not readily translate into strategic wins. Trump is setting the US up for a significant strategic setback. If a non-belligerent, major-power-flagged ship tries to force the Strait, will the engagement parameters be to actively engage that ship? And if the ship still doesn't stop, will Trump order it disabled? Fired upon? What of Iran? They have withstood the military might of Israel and US air power. What if Iran can severely damage a US Navy ship, or worse?! It has become a question of which side will blink first. And since Iran is a theocracy fighting for what it sees as the regime's survival, its will is inherently stronger than the administration's and the US public's political will to sustain the total blockade. And if Trump backs down from the blockade under pressure, that will reveal the paper tiger he is. He's backed himself into a corner with no good options. #IranWar‌

@amvetsupport No doubt that the Nazis used it for propaganda. They were very good at it, maybe even the first to effectively employ mass media propaganda. I just had a quibble with characterizing it as a Nazi gate, as opposed to a Prussian-German gate the Nazis used for propaganda.
