Veteran Nollywood actor Sanni Alli speaks about embracing the Sunnah and how seeking Islamic knowledge has transformed his life, including his decision to quit sports betting.

Surprisingly, while his interview has been widely reported, virtually all the mainstream media focused on his comments about superstition and money rituals, giving little or no attention to this important aspect of his testimony.

At a time when stories portraying Islam negatively often dominate headlines, testimonies showing the positive influence of Islam on character and personal conduct also deserve attention.

"I've been to Islamiyya long ago, but I keep learning. There's a great difference between Arabic literacy, which is the ability to read the Qur'an, and understanding pristine Islam. One has to keep learning to attain the latter. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said we should pray as we saw him pray. So, it is important to learn continuously.

"I listen to lectures at the Ahlus Sunnah mosque where I pray. They are held between Maghrib and Isha at least five times a week. Through such gatherings, I'm gradually gaining a deeper understanding of Islam, and it has influenced me in so many ways.

"For instance, I used to engage in sports betting, but after learning that it is not permissible in Islam, I stopped."
