🔊CHURCH: Tonight, August 27–28, there is a sign in heaven! It will be the most dramatic lunar eclipse to occur anywhere on Earth until New Year’s Eve 2028. A deep partial lunar eclipse will cover 96.3% of the Moon, turning almost the entire lunar surface dark red and copper. And it’s happening right now — in this season, at this moment in history — amid wars, earthquakes, wildfires and floods, as we approach the Feast of Trumpets!! KEEP LOOKING UP — AND TONIGHT, LITERALLY!

📖“Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.’” Genesis 1:14

👉🏼I was torn about whether to write about this particular eclipse because it’s a partial lunar eclipse, and it doesn’t fall exactly on one of the biblical feast days. But then I went back to Scripture. The Lord tells us that He placed the lights in the heavens for signs and seasons, and Jesus repeatedly tells us to WATCH, so, let’s unwrap and see what the Lord might be pointing to:

FIRST — THE ASTRONOMY

🔴This is NOT a total blood moon. 3.7% of the Moon’s surface remains outside Earth’s shadow. So, this is different from the Purim blood moons in 2025 and 2026 and from the 2032–2033 blood moon tetrad that I have talked about before. But 96.3% of coverage is pretty amazing!

👉🏼It will peak at 12:12 AM ET tonight into Friday morning — the Moon will appear almost completely darkened, with deep red and copper hues. Five hours and 38 minutes of eclipse. Three hours and 18 minutes of the dramatic partial phase. This eclipse will be viewed across North and South America. Europe and Africa will also see it. It's visible to the naked eye — no special equipment needed.

NOW — “THE SEASON”

👉🏼Scripture tells us that signs are for the Jews:

📖“For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom.” 1 Cor 1:22

📜Throughout Scripture, we repeatedly see God using signs when He deals with Israel. So if we are going to pay attention to something happening in the heavens, then we also need to ask: What season is Israel in right now? Where are they on God's appointed calendar?

And that is where this gets interesting. Tonight, August 27–28, takes us from Elul 14 into Elul 15 on the Hebrew calendar.

🗓️Elul. It’s THE FINAL month of the Jewish year. The month immediately before Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish New Year and the Feast of Trumpets. Before Yom Kippur — the Day of Atonement. Before Sukkot — the Feast of Tabernacles.

Rosh Hashanah/Feast of Trumpets is 14 days away from this eclipse.

👉🏼In Jewish tradition Elul is unlike any other month. The rabbis describe it as the time when "the King is in the field" — meaning God is uniquely accessible, unusually close, He is drawing near to His people before the Days of Awe arrive.

👉🏼During Elul the shofar is blown EVERY morning except Shabbat. Not as celebration, but as a wake-up call. A trumpet blast saying — examine yourself, return and prepare! The appointed times are approaching!

👉🏼The traditional greeting in Elul is "L'shanah tovah" — may you be inscribed for a good year. Because the belief is that during the Days of Awe God is writing — inscribing names in the Book of Life.

🚨Elul is not a casual month on the Hebrew calendar. It is a month of urgency, and feast of trumpets begins on 9/11 this year...urgency, urgency!

THE TORAH PORTION THIS WEEK

👉🏼The portion being read in synagogues across the world this week — during this eclipse — is Ki Tavo. Deuteronomy 26-29. These are Moses' final words to Israel as they stand at the border of the Promised Land, and they contain some of the most solemn warnings in all of Scripture.

Moses lays out two paths with absolute clarity:

✅Faithfulness to God's covenant — blessing, abundance, honor among the nations, the presence of God in the land.

❌Rebellion against God's covenant — and then comes one of the most devastating passages, the curses of Deuteronomy 28. Confusion, defeat and scattering among the nations. Siege, famine, darkness at noon, and a heart that trembles and finds no rest.

📜Moses was writing history in advance. Every curse in Deuteronomy 28 was fulfilled in Israel's exile — in Babylon, in Rome, in the diaspora, in the Holocaust.

And then he says something that makes your stomach drop:

📖"The LORD will bring you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors." Deut 28:36

👉🏼This is Moses standing at the BORDER of the Promised Land, telling Israel what will happen if they forget God — before they've taken a single step into their land.

The portion ends with these words:

📖"But to this day the LORD has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear." Deut 29:4

👉🏼And THAT is very interesting in a week when we are literally talking about signs, watching, seeing and listening.

WHY THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW

👉🏼Ki Tavo is being read this week. During this eclipse. During Elul. Israel's month of urgent preparation — while an active war is fundamentally reshaping the threat environment that has surrounded her for four decades.

The same portion about covenant faithfulness and covenant consequences — read in synagogues from Jerusalem to New York — as an almost-total blood moon turns the sky red overhead.

🎺Israel stands at a different kind of threshold. The Jewish people are still waiting for their Messiah to appear and finally bring peace, while they are spiritually blind. Meanwhile, the nation that spent decades calling for Israel's annihilation is being dismantled. The fall feasts are 14 days away, and the shofar of Elul is blowing every morning as it always has — calling God's people to examine themselves, return and prepare.

🔥Around the world we are watching earthquakes shake nations, catastrophic floods swallow entire communities, wildfires consume enormous areas, extreme weather break records, nations threaten nations, and alliances shift almost overnight. The war between Russia and Ukraine is intensifying again as peace negotiations stall, with missiles and drones pounding cities and tensions between Russia and NATO growing increasingly dangerous. It feels like every time we open the news, something else is shaking.

THE SEASON WE ARE IN

This is what Elul is pointing toward:

🗓️September 11-12— Rosh Hashanah. The Feast of Trumpets. The shofar blown 100 times. The beginning of the Days of Awe.

🗓️September 20-21— Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement. The holiest day of the Jewish year. The day the Book of Life is sealed.

🗓️September 25 - October 2— Sukkot. The Feast of Tabernacles. God dwelling with His people. The feast Zechariah 14 says ALL nations will celebrate when the King reigns from Jerusalem.

The fall feasts are 14 days away! And the shofar of Elul is blowing every single day!

🔊Church: The eclipse, the Torah reading portion, the FINAL month, the season. The war with Iran, the earthquakes, the fires, the floods, the volcanoes erupting, the wars and rumors of wars... God is not speaking on one frequency right now. He is speaking on all of them simultaneously — and they are all pointing in the same direction!!!

The God who authored the Hebrew calendar, the Torah reading cycle, and the astronomy of our solar system — the same God who placed the lights in the heavens for “signs and seasons” — knew exactly where this eclipse would fall on His calendar, during this particular Torah portion, in this particular season.

There is something incredible about Israel being in this urgent month of Elul while reading Ki Tavo — Moses standing with them right at the border of the Promised Land, warning them about obedience and disobedience before they enter!! And today, Israel is approaching another prophetic threshold. Jacob’s Trouble is coming, but so is their salvation!!! BUT our Blessed Hope COMES FIRST! We are waiting to enter our promised land, not because of our own obedience or works, but because of the finished work of Jesus Christ and the blood of the Lamb! And as we wait to be gathered to Him, Israel is moving toward the 7-year Tribulation — the most horrific time in human history, but one that will ultimately bring them to recognize Jesus as their Messiah!
