One of the Sena (UBT) MPs Om Raje Nimbalkar he claims was told that if he wants a favourable verdict in his father’s murder case in special CBI court, he has to switch sides. The verdict was to come yesterday and has been pushed now to 19th. If true, it raises a very troubling Qs: are court verdicts also now decided by party loyalties?

Important: So @ECISVEEP stays ‘silent’, doesn’t respond to Cong demand to reconsider Meenakshi Natarajan nomination for Rajya Sabha from MP when all the available evidence suggests that prima facie this was hardly a case which required a nomination rejection. At the very least, one would have expected clarity from a top constitutional body. Meanwhile, all 3 BJP candidates declared unopposed. Matter will now be heard in SC only tomorrow and expect ‘tareek pe tareek’ and a prolonged hearing. Yet another nail in the coffin of an institution one looked upto as a neutral umpire. 🙏

Yesterday, he was released from Tihar Jail on a 29-day parole for medical treatment. Soon after he came out, Far right extremist Yati Narasinghanand along with his followers invited Salim Wastik to the temple and celebrated his release.

Look at what happened in the recent Rajya Sabha elections.

Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan ji submitted every document. No pending cases. The EC cancelled her nomination on a frivolous BJP objection.

Parimal Nathwani ji, the BJP-backed independent, got his own name wrong on the form and skipped multiple mandatory disclosures. The EC gave him an extension to fix everything.

Same Election Commission. Two candidates. One was disqualified without even a hearing. The other was rewarded despite not following the rules.

When the Congress sought a meeting, the EC first tried to evade us. When we finally met, they did not say one word.

Expect to see much more of this - because for the BJP, it is far easier to fix the election than to win it.

The heat has increased a lot, so everyone should drink plenty of water.

India’s great Prime Minister Modi held a high-level meeting yesterday. In the meeting, he called all the MPs and ministers. The entire country was expecting that, with the rising prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG, increasing inflation, and the difficult situation faced by poor people, small business owners, street vendors, and rickshaw pullers, the government would announce some relief measures or make an important decision.

But the interesting part is that Prime Minister Modi told his MPs and ministers:

“The heat has increased a lot, so all of you should drink more water.”

And then the meeting ended.

Tell me, can there be a more caring Prime Minister anywhere? In a high-level meeting, he is advising his MPs and ministers to drink plenty of water.

Now wait and watch. Today they are asking people to drink more water. India was already mixing 20% ethanol in petrol, and now the government plans to increase it to 30%. Slowly, after some time, they may even say, “Please drink less water too, we need it to produce ethanol.”

Now it is becoming clear why the great Prime Minister does not hold press conferences. He probably knows that he may not be able to answer even five serious questions.

If questions are asked about development, education, national security, healthcare, and corruption, then he himself might need to drink plenty of water.

CBSE called for OSM tenders thrice. Zero bids the first time. No qualified bidder the second time. And finally, the technical bar was lowered until COEMPT could clear it.

Scanning resolution cut. Robotic scanner requirement dropped. CMMI certification lowered from Level 5 to Level 3. Penalties for errors in answer sheets removed.

TCS, India’s biggest IT services company, qualified in the third round too. TCS lost. COEMPT - a company with a spectacular track record of failure - won.

And what are CBSE students complaining about today? Badly scanned answer sheets. Missing pages. A broken evaluation portal.

Teachers had warned CBSE that the OSM system needed at least a year or two for further preparation before nationwide implementation, yet it was rushed through.

So I ask again - who wanted COEMPT to win? Who lowered the bar, step by step, until this company could clear it?

Pradhan ji and CBSE say “due process was followed.” That is not an answer, that is not accountability. The question is whether the contract was honestly awarded to the best company which could do the job correctly.

The futures of 18.5 lakh children were handed to a company that could only qualify after the rules were bent for it.

To the BJP Ministers attacking me for asking questions - I have, from day one, demanded an independent judicial probe. Expand it from CBSE to every contract awarded to COEMPT. Our youth deserve the truth.

And Modi ji, your silence on the CBSE debacle and inaction against the Education Minister tells the country what you actually care about - not the futures of lakhs of students, only the survival of your own government.

the land of tagore, of vivekananda, of subhash bose, has handed itself to a politics that has nothing to do with us. they came with hindi slogans and helicopters and money, and told us our identity was wrong. that being bengali wasn't enough. that we had to be "hindu" in their narrow north indian way before we could be ourselves.

we forgot. we forgot what bengal stood for.

vivekananda told chicago that hinduism was the religion of acceptance. tagore wrote that nationalism was a disease. bankim's vande mataram was a song to a mother, not a war cry. now their names will sit on hoardings next to men who can't read a line of bengali poetry.

and yes, tmc was rotten. sandeshkhali happened. rg kar happened. the cut money, the syndicate raj, all of it. mamata had this coming. but voting bjp to punish tmc is like burning your house down because the kitchen was dirty.

bengal has already seen what communal politics does to it. our grandparents walked across a bleeding border in 47. they didn't survive that just to hand the next generation back to the same poison wearing saffron instead of green.

i'm not mourning a party tonight. i'm mourning a bengal that remembered who it was.

Why Did Sridhar Vembu Really Come to India?

The story you've been sold: A billionaire tech entrepreneur renounces Silicon Valley, returns to a Tamil Nadu village, lives simply, cycles to work, talks about dharma and reversing brain drain. Simple living, high thinking. A saint in a cotton shirt.

The story the California courts tell: He moved to India in late 2019. Filed for divorce in 2021. In between, he transferred ownership of Zoho's US subsidiary to entities controlled by his associate Tony Thomas and his sister Radha Vembu, who now holds an estimated 47.8% stake in the company, without his wife's knowledge or consent.

A California court didn't mince words. It found that Vembu had acted "without regard for respondent's interests in community assets and without regard for the law." It ordered him to post a $1.7 billion bond. Unprecedented, the court itself said.

His wife Pramila Srinivasan, who by her own account supported the household in Zoho's early years and was kept in the dark about the ownership restructuring, is still fighting the case in California. Their son, who has autism and requires lifelong care, lives with her in the Bay Area. He is 26 years old.

Vembu left him behind.

The move to rural India wasn't a philosophical act. It was a jurisdictional one. California's community property law requires marital assets to be split equally in a divorce.

The solution, apparently, was to move the assets and himself out of California's reach before the divorce became formal. The village was the alibi. The dharma was the disguise. This is the conclusion the evidence points to.

The trial is not yet concluded and Vembu has denied all allegations, calling them complete fiction. But the court, looking at the same evidence, found his explanations not credible.

And then came the reward. The Modi government gave him the Padma Shri on January 26, 2021 and appointed him to the National Security Advisory Board just days later, in February 2021.

The formal divorce filing came in August that year. The government honoured him while the marriage was already in ruins and the asset transfers were already underway.

But the courts and the Padma Shri are almost secondary. The real villainy is what he did to millions of ordinary Indians who believed him.

The man built an entire public persona on selflessness, on the idea that he had walked away from wealth and comfort for the sake of rural youth, for India, for something larger than himself. People quoted him. Teachers cited him. Young men from small towns looked up to him.

It was a performance.

Underneath the saint was a man who had abandoned his wife of nearly three decades, walked away from a son who needed him, moved a billion dollar empire out of legal reach, and dressed the whole operation up as enlightenment.

That is the real story of why Sridhar Vembu came to India.
