YOUR CALLING

Ephesians 4:1–3 says, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

When God made man, what mattered to Him was not his mental or physical disposition but one who would be a stakeholder in His master plan. Every man has a divine cause to fulfil in God’s master plan. Every man born into this world came with a calling. Today, when we hear the word calling, the first thing that comes to mind is ministry—the work of God. Your calling is not limited to ministry. Our fathers of faith were called by God, but not all were called into ministry.

Your call is a solution to a problem. Have you discovered your calling? Are you doing what God has called you to do? The first step in knowing your calling is to get to know God better by reading His Word. The Word of God is our roadmap, the guide, the director for our life. Whatever you are called to do, do it well, as unto the Lord. Are you called to teach? Teach well! Are you called to preach? Preach well! (Colossians 3:23). Remember that what you do through God is your calling; whatever God accepts you to do through Him is also your calling.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to know You more; help me to know my calling in life, in Jesus Christ’s name! Amen!

2 Kings 6:15-16 says, “And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’”

The Bible says that it is for freedom that He sets us free. The freedom the Lord gives releases us from the bondage of sin and from the control of things that seem to contend God’s place in our lives. When we are controlled by power on the outside—what is seen—we lack the quality of being stable. In the case of Jesus, the people’s unbelief was based on what they saw on the outside. They only saw Jesus as the son of a carpenter; they saw Jesus as the son of Mary, a boy who grew up with them. What they saw, what they heard, what their circumstances looked like constituted an atmosphere of unbelief. Under such an atmosphere of disregard and unbelief, it was difficult for Jesus to be at His best for them.

If you are controlled by what you see, what you hear, what you feel, what your circumstances look like, you can never be constant in your relationship with Jesus. As Christians, we are inspired internally by the Holy Spirit. This divine ability will not be developed instantly because growth takes time. Proper judgment and discernment take a lifetime of personal experience with God to develop. Yet, when they are developed, they become permanent. If we have the Holy Spirit, we have the means to control ourselves and thus be free from external control.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to be focused on You and not be controlled by what I see or hear, in Jesus' name! Amen!

AS A MAN THINKETH

Proverbs 23:7 says, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he ...."

What is going on in your heart? Are you thinking of your present challenges or God's promises to you? As a Christian, the content of your heart matters a lot to God. Our thoughts have the ability to limit who we are, what we can do or what we can become. When you think right, you are training yourself to act right. When our mind is focused on our problems, they are magnified, but when we think about God’s provision for our problems, His answer is magnified. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

The greatest source of human trouble is bothering and worrying about tomorrow. In Matthew 6:34, the Bible says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." You cannot just get rid of negative thoughts by rebuking them. You should also replace them with Godly thoughts. Any fleshly effort you make towards resisting negative or sinful thoughts actually strengthens the hold of such thoughts on you. The best way is to replace them with the thoughts of God. Have you been thinking about your past, your failures, your mistakes, your challenges? Now is the time to feed on the Word of God, which contains His promises for you. You must meditate on the Word so that you will have the kind of faith that believes that delay is not denial. God's time is the best, and at God's time, everything is beautiful.

Prayer: O Holy Spirit, help me to focus on You alone, in Jesus' name! Amen!
