this past year has not been perfect. there were moments when this space felt fragile, times when disagreements and noise threatened to pull people apart, and days when it was uncertain if we would even reach this first anniversary together. some days were loud with excitement and celebration, while others were quiet and heavy with doubt.
but through everything, one truth became clear. what keeps this fandom alive is not only mika and brent. it is the people who chose to stay.
more than anyone else, i think today belongs to the menties. to the friendships that formed unexpectedly, to the small interactions that slowly grew into genuine connections, and to the comfort of finding people who understand the same emotions you do. it belongs to the mbo and the nns who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep this community steady. it belongs to the projects, the edits, the trending parties, the fan meetings, and even the late night conversations that filled this year with meaning.
even the difficult moments became part of our story. the criticisms, the misunderstandings, the noise that sometimes made this space exhausting. and yet somehow, we stayed. maybe a little more tired at times, maybe quieter on some days, but still here.
if someone asked me why i stayed this long, the honest answer would be simple. this community.
there were moments when i considered stepping away from stan life. life outside this fandom can be overwhelming, and sometimes it feels impossible to hold space for everything at once. leaving often seemed like the practical choice. but every time i thought about it, i remembered the people here. the conversations, the laughter, and the quiet comfort of knowing there are others who share the same feelings.
somewhere between fangirling and simply showing up each day, we created memories together. and that is what makes it difficult to leave.
i will always be grateful that, in this lifetime, i had the chance to meet all of you.
of course, none of this would have existed without mika and brent. whether they realize it or not, their passion, their craft, and the moments they shared with us brought people together. because of them, strangers found one another and became friends. because of them, this space was created, a space where countless memories were made.
today marks one year, and perhaps this anniversary does not look the way many of us imagined. there may be no acknowledgment from them, and that can feel a little bittersweet. but i have come to realize that this day belongs just as much to us, maybe even more.
because this anniversary is also about the people who stayed.
the people who continued supporting, creating, defending, laughing, and holding this community together for an entire year.
this celebration is for every mentie who remained through both the loud days and the quiet ones. for those who organized projects, created edits, joined trending parties, and showed up for fan meetings. for those who comforted others during difficult moments and for those who continued supporting quietly in their own way.
none of us truly know what the future holds or how long this fandom will last. but as long as there is even one person who continues to believe in the passion and craft of mika and brent, someone who supports them without expecting anything in return, a part of this fandom will always remain.
and as long as that spirit exists, i will still be here in my own way.
