Whitehaven Rugby League are delighted to announce the return of Rio McQuistan to the club after previously stepping back from the professional game back in March.

McQuistan had struggled with a chronic injury prior to and during his time in the Chocolate, Blue & Gold but time away from the game and further treatment options has given the forward the opportunity to jump back into the professional game after maintaining match fitness turning out for Millom in the Cumbrian NCRL conference.

McQuistan has made 21 appearances so for for the club scoring one try and is available for selection for this Sunday’s Heritage day clash vs Keighley at The Ortus Rec.

On Friday we said goodbye to Jordan Thomson as he made his 100th and final career appearance after deciding to step away from the professional game. We welcomed his family in the changing room before the game as he was presented with a signed shirt from his teammates

James Newton has named his 21 man squad as we make the journey to Colwyn Bay tomorrow afternoon. Loanee Oliver Polec is in line to make his debut after joining us from Leigh Leopards earlier this week.

Whitehaven Rugby League are delighted to announce the loan signing of Oliver Polec on a season long loan from Betfred Suoer League side @LeighLeopardsRL

Polec (19) signed for the Leopards on a three year deal ahead of the 2026 campaign having come through the scholarship and academy ranks at St Helens having played his junior rugby at Warrington community club Woolston Rovers.

Having made his professional debut with Salford at the start of the year the forward is looking to continue his foray with the club into the professional game having also represented Lancashire last season in the academy war of the roses contest.

Speaking about the addition of Polec to his squad interim head coach James Newton spoke saying “Ollie comes with great recommendation from all the coaching staff at Leigh, having gained a full time contract this year he has been a top performer at academy level and will really strengthen us in that middle area . Having spoken with Ollie this week he is really excited about coming to Whitehaven and sees a really good opportunity to test himself at championship level. I would like to personally welcome Ollie to the club.”

The club would like to thank members of the Haven Warriors squad builder whose contributions have helped us secure Oliver for the remainder of the Betfred Championship campaign starting with this weekend’s trip to North Wales.
