While 55 soldiers were convicted, they were later enrolled in a “refresher training” program on March 15 at Nyaleke, Beni, highlighting a glaring lack of accountability within FARDC ranks. Between January 26–27, 2025, in Goma, retreating FARDC and Wazalendo militias looted homes and shops, extorted civilians, and shot those who resisted. From February 6–8 in South Kivu (Kalehe to Kavumu), FARDC looted a health center, killed at least 15 civilians, forcibly recruited civilians to carry stolen goods, and committed sexual violence, including the rape of three girls aged 13–17, as verified by MONUSCO.
