Andy Burnham was a Cabinet Minister in Gordon Brown's failed government. In the 2010 leadership contest he finished fourth out of five candidates; ultimately won by Ed Miliband. In 2015: He ran again as an early favourite but ultimately finished second to Jeremy Corbyn.
Do you suppose our current crop of 650 MPs are all brilliant individuals? Government is all about a few key Ministers and a thumping majority of compliant MPs.
@lmharpin This is Andy Burnham's by election to lose. Imagine ReformUK had put up Zia Yusuf or similar. They would have been accused of parachuting in a candidate. In a 'battle of celebrities' Burnham wins. ReformUK had to choose a local bloke or woman for this unusual by-election.
@Chriss_m@annaroseridgway At a General Election when we elect 650 MPs all at once, a good number of new and very unimpressive individuals get elected. They get in under the radar. In a high profile by-election there is nowhere to hide.
@LutonEye@BBCNewsPR@bbcquestiontime Look again at the bar chart you reposted. Makerfield isn't a three horse race. It's a two horse race. Only ReformUK can stop Labour winning.
@Horsesandjosh@giris4u@DailyMail So if I want decent white eggs I have to go to farm shops etc? The ones I occasionally buy in the supermarket aren't as strong. Apart from white leghorns, can you suggest a breed that lays good, strong white eggs.
@Chriss_m@TiceRichard Reform needs at least 326 seats to govern. The individual skill-set of MPs will vary but this quite unique by election needed a candidate like Robert Kenyon. In a 'battle of celebrities' I'm afraid Andy Burnham wins. Reform couldn't pull this off by parachuting a big name in.
@giris4u@DailyMail Yes, I understand this but people like food to look good. If supermarkets move to white shelled eggs I'm sure the market for brown ones will still be there. In the 60s and 70s it was all white eggs but the customer wanted something nicer looking.
@giris4u@DailyMail White eggs often have thinner shells that are more difficult to boil without breaking. They are thinner because white laying flocks often have older hens. Older hens lay thinner shelled eggs.
