I have a question.
If we are going to de-commission the international space station in 2030, why can't we petition NASA to convert it to a space work and craft assembly platform or a refueling platform. Move it to a higher more stable orbit, put it in a passive mode when not in use and use AI to get shipments to it until it is needed?
Granted a higher orbit means we need to make arrangements for astronauts to go farther into space but it just seems more practical to have a space platform for fuel and assembly when it currently takes almost everything a spacecraft can carry just to get it into space and if the space flight is to actually take them further such as to the moon or mars it seems like that would be a likely step to take prior to getting something like this set up on the moon.

Just a thought.
