Durante tres días, especialistas fortalecerán capacidades para privar al crimen organizado de las ganancias provenientes de la minería ilegal, mejorar la administración de activos y reforzar la cooperación interinstitucional.

The OAS/DTOC, together with @USEMBASSYPERU, @MinjusDH_Peru and #PRONABI, launched in Lima the Workshop on the Seizure, Registration, Custody and Disposal of Gold Transferred to the State.
Over the next three days, experts will strengthen national capacities to disrupt illicit gold supply chains, deprive organized crime of its profits, enhance asset management and promote interagency cooperation.

Canada’s ratification of the Belém do Pará Convention is a historic step that strengthens our Hemisphere’s commitment to prevent, punish, and eradicate violence against women.

With 33 States Parties, the Convention remains the most widely ratified treaty in the Inter-American system and a cornerstone for women’s rights in the Americas.

Through the Inter-American Commission of Women @CIMOEA, the @OAS_official will continue working with member states to promote its effective implementation and build a region where all women and girls can live free from violence.

🚨 What leads a young person to be recruited by organized crime? @CICAD_OAS and @ConsejoDrogasRD, sought answers in 🇩🇴.

#CICAD, @OEA_DDOT, the General Directorate of Penitentiary Services, the Prosecutor’s Office, and community leaders, under the framework of the project “Supporting Criminal Justice and Community Capacities to Counter Youth Recruitment and Exploitation in the Context of Drug Markets,” funded by @StateINL, are working to identify recruitment patterns and guide more effective public policies and interventions.

🎯 Objectives:
✅Generate strategic information to support targeted early prevention interventions against youth recruitment by organizations linked to drug trafficking.
✅Strengthen interinstitutional coordination and joint work teams.
✅Reduce the vulnerability of youth to criminal structures.

📌 Key activities conducted:
🔹Training interviewers for the diagnostic study on youth recruitment patterns.
🔹Over 200 surveys in correctional facilities and interviews with prosecutors.
🔹Focus groups with community leaders.
🔹Technical support to strengthen information networks, interventions, and responses to drug-related offenses.

Los grupos del crimen organizado transnacional dependen de un suministro diversificado de armas, municiones y, cada vez más, explosivos para sostener sus operaciones. Estos flujos les permiten expandir el control territorial, proteger mercados ilícitos como el narcotráfico, la extorsión y la minería ilegal, y desafiar la autoridad del Estado.

Bien implementadas, las herramientas de investigación permiten a los Estados identificar puntos de desvío dentro de los sistemas legales, descubrir rutas de tráfico, vincular incidentes y jurisdicciones, y desmontar las redes que sostienen la violencia armada.

Ese es uno de los puntos centrales que se discuten hoy en la XXV Reunión Ordinaria del Comité Consultivo de la CIFTA, en la sede de la OEA en Washington, junto a los Estados Parte de la Convención.

Cuando enfrentamos estos flujos ilícitos, respondemos al crimen y a la violencia. Cuando reducimos el crimen y la violencia, construimos paz. Y con paz, podemos construir prosperidad.

Transnational organized crime groups rely on a diversified supply of firearms, ammunition, and increasingly, explosives to sustain their operations. These flows enable them to expand territorial control, protect illicit markets such as drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal mining, and challenge State authority.

When effectively implemented, investigative tools allow States to identify diversion points within legal systems, uncover trafficking routes, link incidents and jurisdictions, and dismantle the networks that sustain armed violence.

This is one of the central topics being discussed today at the XXV Regular Meeting of the CIFTA Consultative Committee, taking place at the @OAS_official headquarters in Washington, together with the States Parties to the Convention.

When we jointly confront these illicit flows, we respond to crime and violence. When we reduce crime and violence, we build peace. With peace, we can achieve prosperity.

Por eso, los Estados partes de CIFTA trabajan hoy en la sede de la OEA para avanzar en la implementación de herramientas de investigación que permitan dentificar puntos de desvío dentro de los sistemas legales, descubrir rutas de tráfico, vincular incidentes y jurisdicciones, y desmontar las redes que sostienen la violencia armada.

During the recently held 60th Meeting of the Group of Experts for the Control of Money Laundering #GELAVEX organized by @OEA_DDOT, @CICAD_OEA presented the Drug Couriers Project.

This project illustrates how the criminal convergence approach promoted by @OEA_Seguridad is put into practice through intersectoral coordinated responses with various @OAS_Official departments and secretariats.

Led by @CICAD_OEA with support from @CanadaFP 🇨🇦, the project promotes approaches that integrate crime prevention, justice, and social inclusion to confront increasingly complex criminal phenomena. @CanadayOEA, @GAC_Corporate
