Among the many failings of this shallow and trite nonsense, McCardle fails to mention French don’t need as much ready cash as Americans because we have to pay for so so so so so so much more out of pocket. Things like health care and good schools. It matters a lot!

Also…fun thing about GDP per capita is that it is just a simple average. So it can’t tell the difference between a society with high inequality and a society with low inequality. Like for example the USA and France
