It was a great day for a recount in Madison. We started with a 9-vote margin and ended with an 8-vote margin. Thanks to all of our helpers who were efficient and accurate and patient. They stuck with it until all issues were resolved and the numbers were reconciled.
6 a.m. at Election Central in Madison and throughout Wisconsin. About 2300 poll workers are ready to welcome voters in Madison. Every Vote Matters and today every carb does too.
Way to go Madison voters! You smashed records for the first day of in-person absentee voting for a Spring Election. And today was second all-time only to the first day of IPAV voting for last November’s election. Keep it up and #BeAVoter.
SDRI's @MiriamSeifter & @RobYablon submitted an amicus brief with other scholars Friday, arguing in the WI Supreme Court that a legislative committee's ability to veto administrative rules violates the Wisconsin Constitution. Read the brief here: https://t.co/RIZcsbnoZw
Nobody should be surprised that it will take the state’s largest city the longest to tabulate absentee ballots. It’s simply math. And the votes on the ballots are the same regardless of when they are reported.
Milwaukee's central count kicked off at 9 a.m., a little late. Could start at 7 a.m. under state law, but delays to begin there are are somewhat typical. This is likely to have an effect on when we see results at the end of the night.
@Morning_Joe Please correct the statement that Steve Kornacki has been making about tabulating central count ballots in Milwaukee. They started counting them when the polls opened this morning. I sent an email to MSNBC on Sunday night about this.
The Madison City Attorney's Office has appreciated the opportunity to host clerks from the #DiversityClerkshipProgram. We put them to work and they gain experience in real-world municipal law practice. It's a win for our office, for the clerks, and for the legal profession.
The future of the profession is bright!🤩 Last week, we celebrated participants in the 2024 #DiversityClerkship Program!🎉 The program matches first-year law students from all backgrounds with legal offices for a 10-week summer clerkship.

Always happy to work with friends at our State Bar to support the profession. There’s definitely a lot to talk about in election law developments in 2024 and especially in Wisconsin.
It's National Volunteer Week and we're highlighting some of the many, many attorneys who donate their time to the profession.👇

WI voters read this. Now the main sponsor of question 2 says clerks can “hereby designate” anyone to help run elections. That interpretation would’ve allowed Green Bay’s clerk in 2020 to designate the consultant as an election official. It’s just bizarre. https://t.co/H9LEqYIrw7
This is an important message. It is sad that it needs to be continually reinforced with those who have no regard for the facts and the damage that their misinformation does to public confidence in elections and to the work of state and local election officials.
The WEC recently sent a letter and a “Setting the Record Straight” document to Wisconsin legislators in regard to false claims about the agency and the administrator’s performance.

This is important but not surprising. Voting equipment is consistently proven to be accurate and more so than hand counting ballots. I am glad I can lay my head on my pillow tonight confident in the accuracy and security of Wisconsin elections.
