@evinh111@notgaetti Ground ball. Wild throw pulls the first baseman off the bag toward home plate. Only chance is to tag the batter-runner on the way by. Batter runner avoids the tag by sliding into foul territory and touching the safety base.
@nutting_hostage@notgaetti Only mentioned pickoffs as an example of a non-force play at first. The diving play was not a pickoff. It was the batter running out a grounder.
@nutting_hostage@notgaetti Absolutely changes the tag play on a wild throw. Saw a batter-runner avoid a tag by diving for the safety bag in a college game last week. If he’d needed to touch the real base he would’ve been tagged out.
@kebzach It actually does. Watched a college game about a week ago. Poor throw so the first baseman had to go for the tag. Batter-runner dove for the base and was only able to avoid the tag because he could dive into foul territory for the safety bag.
@nut_history Top 10 is tough. There have been so many great pitchers. Most strikeouts of all time. SEVEN no-hitters. Possibly the hardest fastball the game has ever seen. Amazing longevity from facing Willie Mays to Ken Griffey, Jr. He has an argument for sure.
@nut_history It *used to be* part of the game. It’s been against the rules for some time now. Catchers today grown up in a game where this is not permitted, so they’re not ready for it and that makes it even more dangerous. Baserunner should be called out and ejected.
