Most easy day running problems aren't actually a pacing problem. They're a cadence problem.
Quick, light steps put less strain through your joints than long, slow strides at the same effort. Before you chase a faster easy pace, try a slightly quicker turnover first.
60 to 70 well structured miles will usually beat 100 mediocre ones.
Ultra training isn't won by weekly totals, it's won by how much of that volume is actually doing something. Comment or DM "COACH" if your mileage has stalled instead of building you.
Three things that matter more than your bib number.
Start slower than feels necessary; you'll thank yourself at mile 20.
Fuel before you feel like you need it.
Treat the first mile as information, not a target.
"I'm not a natural runner" is a story, not a diagnosis.
Every runner you admire built their engine through consistent, unglamorous training. Talent decides very little of it. Showing up does.
The week after your biggest effort isn't rest because you deserve it. It's rest because that's when the adaptation actually happens.
Skip it, and you're training hard without ever getting the fitness you trained for.
A 10K you can usually run on whatever's already in your system. A marathon is a different game.
Under an hour, fuelling is optional. Past 90 minutes, you're looking at 60 to 90g of carbs an hour or performance drops off a cliff in the second half.
What's actually working for you on race day, gels, chews, real food, something else?
AI can build you a running plan. But can it coach you?
A training plan isn't just a list of miles and workouts.
Your fitness, training history, recovery, schedule, and response to training all matter.
That’s why a plan that looks perfect on paper might not be the right plan for you.

Made a little booklet to introduce students to ‘How Learning Happens’ next term. I’ve added the PDF versions of the Forgetting Pit infographics to my google drive - link in pinned tweet. Thanks to @TTDelusion for the inspiration! ⭐️
