The Normandy Landings, commonly referred to as D-Day, happened 79 years ago today on the 6th of June, 1944. "Taxis to Hell - and Back - Into the Jaws of Death" is a photograph taken on that day by Robert F. Sargent, a chief photographer's mate in the United States Coast Guard. It depicts soldiers of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division disembarking from a landing craft onto Omaha Beach.
